Trial of Dr Freund Continued Amid New Testimony Heard
The trial of Dr Robert R Freund 58 of Branch Hill is continued to Friday to allow the defense to answer surprise testimony. Judge Harry Britton heard the case without a jury and allowed new testimony as both sides had rested. The state accuses the physician of illegal abortion that caused the death of Beatrice Vrentas. Witnesses for the state testified they saw two of the three women who took Mrs Vrentas to the doctor’s office before noon and carrying beer. The defense has said Mrs Vrentas was having a miscarriage and later went into shock. The coroner was involved and instruments were discussed.
