Sawmill Worker Dies In Accidental Injury

Charles Oscar White, 25, of Moscow Calvary Road, died of a crushed skull after a heavy timber struck him at a sawmill on Route 743 near Pt. Pleasant on Big Indian Creek. Witnessed by wife Emma and 5 year old Billy, he was pronounced dead in Bethel after ambulance transport to Cincinnati. Coroner Frederick S. Skeen ruled accidental death.

Pilot dies in B 29 crash near Stockton California

1st Lt. James Young Jr. son of Mr and Mrs James Young Sr of near Newtown dies in a two B 29 crash near Stockton California on November 16. Seventeen others perish and three crew members parachute to safety. Young served 25 combat missions in the Pacific and earned multiple medals. He is survived by wife Constance Bernadine daughter Kathleen Ann and his parents. A Spokane honor guard salutes at services. Billie Beckelheimer five year old Bethel boy suffers kidney disease and neighbors fund gifts and a pre Christmas visit from Santa by the Bethel American Legion donation box filled this week.

Five Injured In Clermont County Automobile Crashes

Five persons were injured in Clermont County auto crashes on Sunday. In the two car collision Miss Jane Hannah 20 Georgetown suffered head and chest injuries while riding with William Brown 25 Decatur. Carrie Westmeyer 67 Cincinnati had a sprained hand forehead abrasions and possible rib fracture. A separate three car crash involving Horace Vance 22 Amelia and Joseph Inbocker 44 Columbus left Vance with head lacerations and Inbocker with body bruises. State Highway Patrol investigated and Hannah was cited for driving left of center.

Savings Bonds Sales Figures Are Released

J L Meeker Clermont County Savings Bonds Chairman announced November 1949 sales at 25856 compared with 37050 in November 1948. He noted Ohioans invested nearly 5 000 000 more in Savings Bonds in 1949 year to date than in 1948.

Batavia Student Earns Degree at Ohio State University

Batavia resident Richard B. Paschal earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration at Ohio State University during the December commencement. A total of 959 degrees were conferred at the autumn class ceremony. Doctor John S. Millis of Western Reserve University gave the commencement address.

Six Batavia Churches Plan Special Christmas Services

Six Batavia churches announce special Christmas services as part of the holiday observance. In Clermont County, seven candidates seek nomination for four county offices in the 1950 election with filing due by February 1. Names include Judge Harry Britton, John J. Hayden, Lee Hannah, Earl Eastwood, Manley A. Hill, John J. Monroe and Earle B. Kincaid.

Clermont County's Edu-Rec elected 1950 officers at the Newtonsville Christmas party with 65 youths enjoying games and dancing. Family of 10 Wins New Refrigerator In Local Contest

Santa Claus visited the Hutchens family on Route 5 Batavia and presented a new Crosley Shelvador refrigerator. Mrs Mildred Hutchens had entered the million dollar give away contest sponsored by Auxier Gas and Appliances. the entry described a large family of eight children needing a spacious fridge. The photo shows the Hutchens family arranged for a Carroll County event with Mrs Hutchens and several children identified.

County Farmers Invited to Clermont Soil District Meeting

County farmers are invited to an annual meeting of the Clermont Soil Conservation District in Batavia. The event aims to elect three new district supervisors for three-year terms and to honor the county’s farm land owners with an entertainment evening. Nomination petitions require at least 25 landowners’ signatures.
