Fred Trump faced a court for a new trial motion on arson charges. The judge overruled the request and sentenced him to twenty years. A stay of execution was requested for twenty days to file a bill of exceptions before the murder trial schedule. Trump was returned to jail.
About 1600 voters in Adams county who lost their rights five years ago for vote selling are to be restored to citizenship before year’s end. The era of vote buying has ended with reforms, yielding quieter elections and fewer crowds at polling places, a change seen as a welcome reform by residents.
former Union Central Life Insurance executive Frank Roudebush died at home in Memphis Tennessee from complications of diseases. He leaves a widow and three sons. Remains to be shipped to Milford for burial in Owensville. He was 54 and widely respected.
Congressman C. C. Kearns of the Sixth District, a new member, has been assigned to the Pension and Territory committees by Minority Leader Mann. The appointments are among the most important. Kearns promises to make a record for himself and his county.
The gas drillers on the Anstead farm have restarted after a weeks long delay due to casing supply issues. They are currently around 800 feet down and advancing quickly day and night with two shifts. The crew reports strong progress and growing gas flow, with expectations of striking a gusher within a few hundred feet, signaling a boom for Batavia and nearby county.
The county board met Monday and approved standard business items. Banks holding traction company bonds were required to replace those securities with municipal bonds.
Fred Trump confined in county jail on a first degree murder charge won a wager from a fellow prisoner last week. He bet a quart of oysters that he could travel from his cot to the jail rear then back without aid. He completed the feat and received the oysters that evening. He is gradually improving.

Hon C C Kearns of the Sixth District introduced a bill in Congress to appropriate 50000 dollars to erect an equestrian statue of General Ulysses S Grant at Georgetown Ohio. The act authorizes the Secretary of War to fund the project with approval by the Commission of Fine Arts. A county memorial with a public library and portrait near Clermont County could better serve residents.
The Republican National Committee selects Washington as the venue for the 1916 Republican National Convention to be held June 7 in Chicago, with four cities bidding and each offering 100000 dollars. The Democratic convention is slated for St Louis a week later.
The annual report of Secretary Wilson shows total immigrant aliens dropped from 1,218,480 to 826,700 in the year ending June 30. All admitted arrivals fell to 484,244 from 1,408,801 the prior year. Departures also declined notably.
The Boy Scouts face a well matched Covington team at the armory on Thursday evening December 28. A first class contest is expected from all indications.

The Batavia school board opened bids for a new school to be completed by September 1, 1916. Arthur P. Eveland of Miamiville won the contract for the building at 283706 dollars. John Arpp & Co. of Middletown won the plumbing at 1980 dollars. Beerman Electrical Co. of Covington won the electrical work at 720 dollars. Heating plant contract not awarded.
Owensville Grange presents a New Year Eve show at Favrett’s hall Owensville on December 31 1915. A male quartet cornet solo and a cast list feature Miss Rebecka Marsh Miss Agnes Macpherson Arthur Everett and J L Marsh with admission 20 cents children 10 cents. Refreshments after the entertainment and late return cars are provided.
Presbyterian and German AB churches list midweek prayer and teachers meetings plus Friday Christmas entertainment and Sunday services. Owensville AB holds Christmas preaching and Sunday class. Methodist church hosts 10 15 a m service with quartet and Brotherhood installation. Severe rain floods Spring street cellars as sewer capacity proves insufficient.
Court docket lists appeals in Northorn vs Frank Myers and M S Griffith administratrix vs Fred Trump with damages claimed at 500 and 10000. Other actions include divorce, partition, contest of will, guardianship, title questions, and wills filed with entries and continuances through December 1915.

Clermont County corn show slated for the Armory on January 20 1916 with prizes for top corn growers. Exhibitors must show Clermont county corn grown in 1915 by the grower or agent. Special essay prizes for youths 20 and under on corn growing and for girls 20 and under on poultry cooking and home arts.
The annual Co. K banquet at the armory last Wednesday night featured a fine menu prepared by Miss Kate Hamilton. All members attended and the evening was greatly enjoyed by those present.
The article warns of a serious freight car shortage far above normal for this season. About 1600 cars could be used by the N. and W. road now, with iron and farm produce like corn and wheat moving in large volumes. Cattle hogs and lumber are also being shipped in similar measures.
