Col Byron Barbeau recalled to active duty in Europe
Batavia born Col Byron M Barbeau recalled to active Army duty after reporting to Fort Belvoir on January 7. He will join the Eastern Atlantic Division Corps of Engineers to aid defense construction, housing, and harbor and airfield projects in Europe North Africa and Iceland. He previously led the 1101st Engineer Combat Group with General Patton's Third Army and earned the Bronze Star for bridge construction under fire.

The 1.9 mile State 125 road through Amelia was completed Friday with widening and safer grades. Sidewalks run along the north and part of the south business section, but weather delayed some walks. The project cost 410 500 with federal and state participation and includes drainage work and future seeding in spring.

Thieves Steal $200 From Oasis Cafe In Amelia
Sheriff Dericks and Deputy McNutt investigate a $200 cash theft at the Oasis Cafe on Route 125 near Amelia. Thieves, entering before 6 a.m., took $70 from a locked drawer and $130 from a pinball machine and jukebox, damaged a cigarette vending unit, and left tools and disrupted liquor bottles. Evidence includes an ice pick, bottle opener, and pipe. fingerprints were taken.

Barn Blaze Destroys Farm Near Batavia
A noon Monday fire on Route 74 west of Batavia destroyed a barn stocked with 200 chickens 500 bushels of corn and two sows. Owner Angy Tsangeos estimates losses between 6000 and 7000 dollars. Firefighters suspect an overheated stove.

Batavia Seeks New Water Works Truck And Patrol Car
Batavia's Board of Public Affairs plans to sell its 1939 three quarter ton water works truck and buy a 1951 or 1952 half ton model with six ply 650 by 16 tires. Power Plant Ties County Taxes To New Clermont Facility
Clermont County to gain 12 000 to 14 000 dollars in next year’s taxes from the Walter C Beckford generating station under construction by Cincinnati Gas and Electric Company on the Ohio River. The project will raise 1952 tax duplicates by about 2 260 000 dollars to exceed 48 million. first unit 100 000 kilowatts due April, second 100 000 by June 1953, and a 125 000 watt unit in 1954. Parish officials and local leaders attended the cornerstone ceremony.

A Cincinnati airman Sergeant James L. Cummins died at his brother’s Titus Road home near Owensville. Coroner Dr. F. S Skeen ordered a full autopsy by Dr. Frank Dutra at Kettering Laboratory UC to determine the cause. The death was discovered by Cummins' English fiancée Miss Barbara Marsh who was visiting.
