George town plans to establish a Chautauqua society led by Prof. Charles Wilson newly named state secretary of the National Lyceum Chautauqua. A citizen who heard a disturbance in his shed found a man inside claiming he was seeking his dog. Lemuel Teasdale longtime Batavia stage conductor died at his Franklin home on December 11. Born in Washington PA he moved to Batavia in 1870 to work with Richard Brimmer on a Williamsburg to Cincinnati line that carried mail. He later ran tin and hardware, milled at Moore Mills, and finally settled in Franklin with his family. He served twice as Warren County sheriff and was well liked by all. He leaves a widow and two grown children.
Bernard Wred saloon keeper of Cincinnati seeks to stop Hamilton county from collecting the $1,000 Aiken tax. He argues the law is invalid for lack of proper presentation to Governor Pattison and that the governor could not have received the bill due to incapacity. The State maintains presentation is a mere technicality and the bill was delivered to the executive. The case hinges on the legality of the bill’s presentation to the Governor.
John Stoll, a city reporter, goes hunting on a Sunday near Milford. Constable Geyer confiscates his gun and birds, seeks to arrest him, and then seeks habeas corpus. Squire Clark issues a warrant. the reporter is released on bond and vows not to hunt on Sundays except for church.

Major William R Lowe born 1843 Batavia, youngest son of Colonel John R Lowe of the 12th Ohio volunteers. He served as lieutenant then major in the regular army and died while on duty in the War Department. He married Adelaide Kinney in 1867. survived by memories of Batavia’s old timers.
Brown county postmaster Mr. Kelsey, an anti-Hildebrant figure, is expected to be replaced. Friends of Chapman, a Hildebranter, sought to place Chapman in Kelsey’s shoes with Foraker’s help, but Foraker gave little support. Kelsey likely will be reappointed.
In Loveland last week James Storey sought possession of the McIntire farm from Clark Meyers who refused to vacate. A magistrate and jury ruled for Meyers with a recommendation that both parties occupy the premises jointly until March 1 when Meyers's lease ends.
