Community Meet at Armory Draws Largest Crowd Yet
The American Legion Frank W. Weaver Post hosted a grand community meeting at the Armory last Wednesday night, drawing the county’s largest turnout. Activities included boxing matches for boys under 16, a basketball game where Miami Peps defeated Manchester Giants 38 to 22, plus speeches, old time events, and local musical performances. The Legion plans an oyster supper on December 20 with a Christmas fund collection for the needy.

Injured Toys Drive Helps Batavia At Christmas
Over the next two to three days Boy Scouts will collect and repair toys for Batavia residents. A first aid station opens at the Armory after school to ready playthings for service, with distribution coordinated by the American Legion committee to ensure every child has a merry Christmas.

On Friday evening December 19 the Batavia public schools present a Christmas program on the school lawn at 6 30 supervised by Miss Louise Latamer director of music assisted by the Batavia Male Quartet. Pupils bring food clothing and useful gifts for needy families to be distributed by charitable organizations. The American Legion Drum Corps will form at the Armory and march to the grounds. The heated school building will be open for arrivals before the program.

Execution Stayed in Brown County Murder Case
Attorneys for John Zeller appeared before the Supreme Court on Friday December 5 seeking review of testimony that led to a first degree murder conviction in Brown County for the May 18 killing of Robert Clemons. A related appeal of testimony in error granted a stay of execution scheduled for December 10. Testimony in the inquiry of Zeller and Hamilton native Charles Cramer indicated they and three others lured Clemons to White Oak Creek and shot him as they drove away after staging a stalled car scene.
