Garrett Hamm first Clermont Africa fatality
Mr and Mrs L G Hamm of Williamsburg were notified Tuesday evening of their son Pvt Garrett Hamm's death in the North African landing operations. The War Department said he was killed by enemy action November 9 off the North African coast. Hamm, attached to the Signal Corps, had lived in Williamsburg and Batavia and served in the army for some time. He is the first Clermont county soldier killed in the North African operation, though a New Richmond lad was killed earlier in the war.

Goshen School Scrap Drive Totals 57 Tons Collected
Goshen school district completed its scrap drive delivering 57 tons to war factories, averaging 248 pounds per pupil.
