Three teams tied for league lead in Clermont County hoops

Clermont County High School league basketball saw Milford Amelia and Moscow undefeated in boys league play while Milford girls lead the pack. Amelia beat Felicity and Loveland, Milford beat Bethel, Goshen, Williamsburg, and Owensville, and Batavia defeated Goshen as Moscow beat Williamsburg.

Tobacco sales on the Ripley market last week posted a top price of 48e with an average of 22.6 dollars per hundred and a low of 1 dollar per hundred.

O. N. G. Armory To Be Renovated

A WPA project to re roof and fully renovate the Ohio National Guard armory at Batavia has been approved. Lieut. Forrest E. Ely reports work will start next week with interior painting floor sanding and improved lighting including indirect lighting.

The Batavia levy carried with 290 yes and 80 no votes. In Jackson district the levy passed with 88 yes and 50 no.

Dedicatory Program for New Court House Ceremony

The dedication program features Eli H. Speidel as chairman with addresses by Judge H. L. Nichols on the Old Court House and the New Court House. Prince of Peace Contest Winners Named in New Richmond

The Clermont County Prince of Peace contest at Cranston Memorial Methodist Church in New Richmond crowned Ralph Hulick and Jack Dudley of Bata via as first and second. Seven contestants from Bethel Moscow Milford and Bata via spoke with notable elocutionary skill under presiding Roy Thompson and remarks by Paul Miranda.

Meat Cooking Demonstration at U B Church Batavia

A meat cooking demonstration will be held all day Wednesday January 6 at the U B Church in Batavia starting at 10 o clock. Miss Norma Ashbacker extension nutritionist from Ohio State University will conduct the demonstration showing various meat preparation methods. The session is part of a county agent series on home economics projects. A bread making school follows on February 2. Strassburger Appointed Custodian for Court House Move

Louis Strassburger, superintendent of the new court house project, is named custodian by the County Commissioners to oversee the moving of offices into the new building. He gains authority to supervise cleaning and care from December 19 1936 until the board decides otherwise, with unskilled labor at 35 cents per hour and skilled work at 85 cents per hour.

County officials delay action on replacing Elmer Binning after his sudden death. Recorder Burton Hodges is ill at home, hindering a three way meeting. Pearl Binning, widow of the late commissioner, has Democratic backing and is a leading candidate.

Tobacco Market Continues Strong in Ripley Region

Farmers warehouse men and businessmen celebrate as Ripley tobacco sells at the highest prices since 1928. First week totals show 218,898 pounds $60,209.81 average $23.49 with little rejection. Good smokers bring in the upper forties to over fifty dollars as light deliveries persist across four houses Independent O K Farmers and Union.

Schoolmasters Select Bethel For Meeting

The Clermont County Schoolmasters' Club held its first regular meeting at Amelia on December 3, 1936. A fine luncheon and entertainment were enjoyed as the constitution committee presented and adopted the proposal after thorough review. Mr. Deter of Batavia chaired the committee and urged active participation in the new year.

County Leaders Discuss Road Repair Plans

On Monday the county commissioners discussed road work and ordered the surveyor to prepare estimates. Roads listed include Hells Half Acre Road for 1 mile, Sharp's Cut Off 0.25 mile, Bethel Concord 1 mile, Bolender 1 mile, Clover Anti Bantam 1 mile, Nine Mile 0.5 mile, and Miamiville Guinea 2.5 miles.
