ADC funds to Clermont County aid dependent children
Clermont County has received 248 918 dollars in Aid to Dependent Children for December. State Auditor Thomas E Ferguson notes this excludes weekly ADC auxiliary payments paid mainly to new recipients throughout the month. The aid reflects food stamp allowances to recipients who choose stamps. Clermont County Training Center Expansion Approved in Owensville
The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation approved funding for Clermont County Training Center to expand services for mentally retarded and developmentally disabled children. County court cracks down on offenders
Clermont County Judge E Robert Schaeffer handed jail terms to several shoplifting defendants last week. A 20 year old girl admitted taking cosmetics without paying and received a 30 day sentence with 18 hours to serve, suspended for the rest. A middle aged woman with prior Hamilton County theft history received a similar 30 day term suspended except for 12 hours. The judge warned she would serve the remainder if re arrested. The woman fainted in court as she pleaded for mercy.

Flood waters rise as NR residents evacuate
New Richmond residents fled rising Ohio River after heavy rain and snow crested the river. The Ohio National Guard was ordered into New Richmond and the Red Cross set up an emergency shelter at the elementary school. Police Chief Harold Kennedy estimated 30 to 40 homes, including mobile homes, evacuated as about 25 guardsmen remained on scene.
