Clermont County Humane Society discussed renting a dog boarding kennel to convert into a county dog pound. Commissioner Zenas Anstaett attended. a committee will report on costs and a request to use about $8000 remaining in the Kennel Fund to operate the pound is planned.
Clermont County commissioners review Newtonsville Council proposal to annex two about 19 acre tracts including Skidmore Subdivision and Wilkay Acres. The plan includes a petition with 15 signatures and a public hearing will be advertised and held.
Batavia Police Chief Ed Col onel and Patrolman W A Kalchek arrested two juveniles Saturday and recovered 145 dollars 55 cents within an hour of the theft at Backer's Batavia Lanes on West Main Street. An 11 year old could not explain how he got two five dollar bills and led officers to his 16 year old accomplice who surrendered 75 dollars and 60 dollars 55 cents in change.
County commissioners plan to request federal assistance for two bridges in the area. Estimated costs are 47000 for the Clough Pl. bridge and 90000 for the De La Palma Rd. span. The board also urges traffic lights on Route 125 at Withamsville Tobasco and Nine Mile Tabasco roads near St. Thomas More school.
Clermont County Board of Education warned that a taxpayer suit against the State Board of Tax Appeals could halt tax collections across Clermont County and close schools in West Clermont. The board urged citizens to consider consequences before acting, as petitions to break up or realign districts were studied with a decision set for next Tuesday. More than 100 people attended, voicing support for Amelia’s separate district and transfers to Batavia and New Richmond districts.
Two separate Friday night crashes left six people injured in Clermont County. Melvin Duffey of Olive Branch shows severe leg and back injuries after a crash on Amelia Olive Branch Road near Judd Road. Charles I Karlage and family escaped serious harm. Deputies investigated. A second crash on Weaver Road near Route 133 sent two women and three children to Our Lady of Mercy Hospital for cuts and bruises. Deputies and state patrols investigated. In Mt Holly the Arcadia Garden Club hosts a Christmas dinner at 7 p.m. December 14 at the D X Ranch with gift exchange and speaker Irwin Beitman on Poinsettias.
E A Graber raises eligibility concerns about Monroe township trustee Harry Clark for Clermont County Board of Health. The letter notes incompatibility with board membership. two other members recently resigned for similar reasons.
Parker S. Adams reports the West Clermont local school district welcomes the State Board of Tax Appeals decision ordering an operating levy of 14.5 mills for 1958. The board notes funding will ensure operations in 1958 and requires a levy for 1958 and 1959, while a bond issue remains needed for construction and classroom shortages persist.
