He urges acquaintance with local neighbors in Clermont and surrounding counties, hoping to foster fellowship, mutual aid, and community unity through church, school, clubs, and civic groups.
Linda Anderson four year old of Afton died from a skull fracture concussion and internal injuries after falling from a car driven by her mother near Batavia. Her burial took place at Flag Cemetery Newtown with Robert Christie three injured in the same mishap.
Mrs Jessie Stevenson 78 of Route 1 Amelia died at Christ Hospital after being struck by a car as she crossed Route 125 near Hamlet. The vehicle driven by Frank Kempf 52 of Route 3 Bethel. She told police she failed to see the car and was brought to hospital by Moore ambulance. She suffered fractures of both legs and internal injuries.
The Bantam Juvenile Grange will host a noon cow dish dinner and program at the Presbyterian Church on December 13. Mrs. Byron Frederick leads the mitten Christmas event with each grange offering a five minute act. A Christmas tree trimmed with mittens will be sent to children in Korea.
The Batavia Christmas decorating contest for homes and businesses will be held this year with details to be published next week. Postmaster Eleanor Coyle urges patrons to present mail at the post office window to ensure proper handling as first class letters are forwarded or returned at no extra cost. Ankermiller's Shell Station cooperates with Kiwanis Clubs as a toy collection point to be repaired and donated to needy children through Frances Reese, county welfare director.
Clermont County commissioners met with the Water Committee seeking a county water system for Batavia Union and Pierce townships to review progress and action timelines. Alfred Lefeber estimated initial needs of 3000 to 5000 dollars with bonds selling once underway and certification possible after year’s start.
A Tuesday incident caused 3500 in damage to the Batavia Lumber Company roof by an overheated stove in a locker room. Batavia Fire Department responded to the blaze and controlled it.
The Grange Conference will be held at Batavia Grange Hall at 8 p.m. Monday December 14. Every subordinate and Pomona officer is expected to attend.
The Tri County Council for Mentally Retarded Children will meet at Goshen School at 8 p.m. on December 17. A member of the Hamilton County chapter will be the speaker. The date was moved up because of Christmas. All interested persons are urged to attend.
Brig. Gen. Paschal N Strong outlined a plan to replace the Ohio River dams with 18 new locks and dams to speed river traffic. He spoke at the Clermont County Officers Association banquet, noting current facilities age and the potential for a record 60 million tons of commerce this year.
Jim McCloy of Batavia joins Fahey-Clark Investment Brokers as Southern Ohio representative. He will operate from Cleveland until the Cincinnati office opens January 1. McCloy was previously with Weil Roth and Irving, Cincinnati brokers.
Thornton Spaulding aged 82 was found dead from a shotgun wound in New Richland. He was the father of Police Chief Charles Spaulding who reported his death occurred about 12 to 15 hours before discovery after his wife died in February from stove explosion burns.
Civic and industrial leaders attended ceremonies as CGE s Walter Beckford Plant near New Richmond activated its second 1,000,000 kilowatt turbo generator this week.
The Ohio Highway Construction Council maintains its decision to improve the Route 131 shortcut between Milford and Vera Cruz over US Route 50. Council chair Clingan Jackson announced the stance at the 35th Ohio Contractors Association meeting in Cincinnati. A Clermont-Brown committee sought a reevaluation and delivered petitions urging retention of the current plan and possible Route 50 improvements.
