County Auditor B. L. Ketchum outlines personal tax changes and filing windows for 1931. Personal returns must be filed between February 15 and March 31 1982 with half due at listing, penalties apply, and certain property exemptions noted. Banks and financial institutions will list holdings. intangibles taxed at specified rates. delinquent prior year taxes due separately.
Batavia's G C will gather at Mrs H N Wilson's home Monday afternoon December 14 at 2 30. Theme asks what new perennial will you raise next year with speaker Mr Cowperthrite J1.
State through the Emergency Unemployment Relief Committee sent cards to township clerks asking about financial conditions. Governor's Special Unemployment Committee wants the data for county aid calculations. Few cards have been returned. return them to Mrs. Mabel Massey in Batavia at once for compilation in Columbus.
In 1980 census the county shows 27 036 idle acres unused despite taxes and fences. County Agent Wilson notes potential to convert wasteland into forest land with hardwoods and evergreens offered by the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station at 2 to 8 dollars per 1000. Seedings price lists and application blanks available at the County Farm Bureau in Batavia. applications soon advised. Joe Sutty of the N. and W. railroad has built a new five room cottage in South Batavia with Homer Weaver and Will Krants as contractors.
The County Unemployment Relief Committee outlines its role and how contracts for bridge work are awarded. It states the panel cannot grant jobs, but can only submit a list of names from which contractors must hire 85 percent of their workers. With hundreds seeking work and few contracts, chances of securing a position are limited.
The 64th Representative District 1.0 O. F. of Ohio will hold its annual meeting at Lebanon on Friday December 11 at 3 pm. Grand Master Reading will preside at an officers conference to open the gathering. Full attendance is desired from each lodge in the district.
The record lists the number of auto licenses sold in Clermont county municipalities for 1931. Totals include outside municipalities and the overall county sum of 26,974 licenses paid for all classes, with average cost per license and notes on tag usage and renewal reminders. It also mentions local officials J. M. Wiseman and James R. Hicks amid notices on tag purchases and travel.
Amelia hosts the dedication of its new high school building with a large afternoon program and two Batavia teams visiting for a pair of games. The Batavia girls won the women's game 19 to 6, while the Amelia boys edged Batavia 23 to 18 in a close finish. Dancing followed until midnight.
The Ripley Burley Tobacco Market opens Wednesday January 9 with expectations of a record season. The two Ripley warehouses Independent Loose Leaf and Union Loose Leaf are upgraded and staffed to handle sales quickly, keeping tobacco fresh and fetching higher prices. Albert Whisner leads Independent Loose Leaf, Harry Gray serves as auctioneer, W E Davis heads Union Tobacco, and Bruce Lykins handles auction duties.
Rauscher brothers Miami Peps win their second straight game. Burke older leads scoring with 11 points while Witting and D Marsh shine on defense. Minute Men, featuring former Cincinnati high school stars, stay competitive as league play begins with upcoming games against Ber gen Grocers and other area teams.

Chaney and addresses by Elizabeth Masters and others. afternoon includes music, reports, and officer elections. night session lists vocal and instrumental numbers and addresses by local figures.
The county athletic committee met in Batavia and set February 26 27 and 29 for the annual boys tournament with W J Tabsecott named manager. No site chosen yet though Batavia Bethel Amelia New Richmond Milford Williamsburg and Owensville are under consideration. Girls tournament elimination is canceled this year.
The State Grange is in session at Sandusky this week with members from Clermont County attending. Wm. Brothers of Batavia OC J. Nobis Locust Corner J. W. Howard Moscow and John Haywood Goshen are listed among the attendees as the Grange grows in popularity.
Former Clermont resident Clarence Ulrey, formerly of Owensville and long involved in Georgetown business, died in Cincinnati Monday after a two year illness. Survived by a sister Miss None and a brother Sidney. Burial at Milford last Thursday. many friends in Clermont.
J. Saunders, Federal Drouth Relief Loan agent, informs Clermont County Drouth Relief Committee of his upcoming visit within a week or ten days. He states there will be no loan extensions except for tobacco growers who have not yet sold their crop, and asks the committee to notify borrowers to be prepared to repay.
Milford village council, unhappy with Southwestern Power Company rates,Creates a committee to study rates in similar villages and plans to petition the Public Utilities Commission for parity with neighboring communities.
Frank Welton 75 of Nine Mile was found dead on his porch last Tuesday evening by his wife. He recently bought a small farm and moved to the country after retiring from the Cincinnati bakery trade. Coroner Curliss ruled heart trouble the cause. Survived by his wife. Body taken to White Funeral Home for burial.
December 4 was set to destroy ballots from November 3 and unused ballots. Summary sheets and papers are saved for potential future use. Contests end, but irregularities may be reviewed later. The next election period begins with January's second Tuesday.
The Unemployment Committee has received 225 names for five small bridge contracts totaling 36000 dollars to be awarded December 18. Work must be finished by May. Names will be screened and certified to the contractor if found worthy. Local men nearest to the sites will be prioritized and some assist from community funds provided in each locality.
Bob Lanham 23 confined in county jail last summer faced larceny and non support charges. Granted permission to attend his sister's funeral by Sheriff Roberts, he fled and was captured near Carthage Kentucky by Deputy Sheriffs Meinken Kain Croswell and Hodge. He pled guilty before Judge White and was sentenced to the Ohio Penitentiary from one to seven years, with no credit given for the non support.
W. Rufus Walker aged 72 died at his Batavia home at 2 p.m. Monday after illness. He moved to Batavia 40 years ago to enter the drug business, later lived in Indiana, then returned to Batavia. He was a Mason and Presbyterian member. A widow survives him. Funeral from the Presbyterian church Thursday at 2 p.m. Burial in Union cemetery. An entertainment by the Afton school at the Afton M E church Friday evening Dec 11 at 7 30 features Jane and others in songs and dialogues.
