Batavia and Williamsburg draft boards issued 273 invitations for men aged 21 to 36 eligible for the draft. Board No 2 sent 180 questionnaires with 56 classified and 16 in 1A. Board No 1 issued 93 with plans to classify about 340 and 400 respectively. A few volunteers have joined, including three men sent to Fort Knox to join the mechanized cavalry.

Mrs. Anna Erton died at her home near Batavia on November 27. Funeral services were held at U B church and burial occurred in Batavia Cemetery. She leaves Elton and Florence Edinger, Naomi, a sister Mrs Edward Anstaett, and brother Jesse Hal. A second Batavia resident, widow of Joseph Platter, died at home last Wednesday. Funeral was at Presbyterian church with burial in Batavia Cemetery.
