The Batavia Garden Club invites residents to decorate homes for Christmas. There will be three judging classes for homes, doorways, and business establishments. No prizes this year. outstanding entries will receive honorable mention. Judging occurs Tuesday December 28 between 7:30 and 9:30.
The Social Security Board from its Cincinnati field office warns that many housewives and others may take temporary jobs this holiday season through 1941. Workers must obtain or duplicate social security cards and present numbers to employers. Employers should copy worker details from cards and report wages when social security taxes are paid quarterly.
Lucian M. Dawson 85 prominent New Richmond attorney and long time mayor died at his home. Admitted to the bar in 1885 he practiced law over five decades and helped organize Clermont Building and Loan Co in 1886 and the First National Bank of New Richmond in 1904 serving as its first president and cashier. Funeral services were held Tuesday. Survived by a daughter Jane Dawson Langdon of Coral Gables Fla and a son Lucian H. Dawson an attorney in New Richmond.
Charles J. Whitmer and son Nelson will open a remodeled roller rink in the former Clermont Construction Co. building on December 12. Hours are 2:30 to 5 Sundays, 7 to 11 evenings, with no skate Monday nights. The Whitmers promise orderly entertainment and invite the public to inspect before opening.
During a Clermont county inspection Sergeant Whipple reported 19 A class, 49 B class and 1 C class school buses. The findings flag vehicle conditions for safety review and potential repair actions by the district.
New Richmond hosts Bethel at 8 Friday after New Richmond was crushed 56 to 22 earlier. Felicity Frankin beat Owensville 23 to 19 as Felicity extended its win streak to four. Batavia beat New Richmond reserves 32 to 23 and Batavia remains undefeated in county play.
Batavia Grange holds election with Ralph Hulick as Master and Walter Bauer as Overseer. Bertha Rush is Lecturer and William Snyder Steward, with Marie Heinke as Secretary and Grace Snyder as Lady Asst. Steward. Other officers include Estella Lytle Chaplain and Velma Baumann Pianist.
Mr and Mrs Jacob Meyers of near Williamsburg celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Thanksgiving Day November 20 with a family dinner. Their three children and four grandchildren attended, including Melvin Meyers of Detroit and J E White of New Richmond. A 2 to 8 reception welcomed over 100 guests and gifts were many and useful.
Friday evening December 5 from 5 p m the Methodist church hosts a turkey supper for 60 and 85 cents. Menu includes turkey dressing gravy whipped potatoes peas celery cranberries rolls butter mince pie pumpkin pie and coffee for 60 or 85 cents. Proceeds support church activities.

Barbara Hall, accused of killing her husband Alonzo at their Milford home on September 27, has been returned from Lima State Hospital after a sanity test. Declared sane after thirty days, she returned to Batavia to stand trial before Judge Charles G. White. A trial date had not yet been set, with jurors called for the coming Saturday. Police indicate others may be implicated in the murder.

Mrs Virginia True aged wife of R F True and mother of several children died at her Mt Carmel home on Friday November 28. Funeral services were held at the home on Monday December 1 with interment at Mt Moriah.
Mrs Ellen Apple died suddenly at home in Glen Este on November 27 at age 90. She is survived by daughter Blanche Apple two sons Otto and Clarence daughter Mrs Ora Fry and brother George Driver plus several grandchildren. Funeral was held at 2 p m Sunday at Wm S Moore Funeral Home with interment at Mt Moriah Monday.
The Clermont county health department reports the first rabid skunk found in the county after biting a young man who trapped it. The head was sent to Columbus for examination and confirmed rabies. The injured men received rabies treatment and are not ill. The warning urges caution for trappers and notes a 1942 farm defense effort requires maintaining existing machinery due to steel and metal shortages. Edn C. Saxton stresses timely parts orders as labor and equipment supplies tighten for farmers.
County Agent Roy Battles announced receipt today of the embossed gold medal awarded to Miss Betty Leeds of Bethel for best record in the National 4 H Club Rural Electrification Contest. Miss Mary Lamb of Franklin Miss Glenna Leste of Nicholsville Miss Martha Nobis of Locust Corner and Miss Rita Molitor of Milford received honorary medals for placing in the blue ribbon class at the county 4 H dress review. Pins were silver and embossed with County Dress Review and the 4 H Club girl figure, flanked by 4 H insignia.
The Batavia Junior Woman's Club will meet Thursday December 4 at 8 oclock at the home of Miss Althea Moyer. Co hosts will be Mrs William Parson Mrs Raymond Ross and Miss Elisabeth Moyer. After the business meeting members will sew for the Community Christmas dolls.
Mt. Carmel Unit president Mr. Robert H. Biederman announces an open meeting at the Mt. Carmel Glen Este schoolhouse on Monday December 8 at 8 p m. The group will show motion pictures from the Ohio Department of Conservation and the public is invited free of charge.
Mr and Mrs Joseph Taylor of Branch Hill Clermont county will mark their golden wedding anniversary with an at home event on Tuesday December 9 from 1 30 to 4 30 and 7 30 to 9 30 p m He is 73 and she is 70 lifelong residents of Clermont county they have lived 45 of 50 years in Branch Hill They have one son George and two grandchildren.
