A local roundup reports that several county candidates filed expense accounts for the August primary while a number of others filed none. Officials remind campaigns to submit by the deadline and note varying reporting statuses across parties.
Labor and committees promote September 8 at Coney Island as one of the season’s largest gatherings. Residents urged to attend with amusements for all ages and a county ball game in the afternoon between two strong teams.
The Owensville Grange held a Saturday meeting with County Agent Mr Stowe sharing farming guidance and deputy Mr Perin giving useful Grange topics. Miss Mayme Uirey presented The Little House on the Hill, followed by ice cream and cake led by Charles Hill and Mr Wiley. Next gathering is the Saturday after noon September 9. Ella Favret, lecturer.
John Stout competes for a Mentholatum prize for best decorated window. Mr S. displays at Scotts drug store this morning with photos by Mr Addy. Bethel Journal wishes Dr Stout success and notes Mr S. is known for attractive show windows at Bechtel drug store.
Fanny the purebred Jersey belonging to Walter Bee leads the month with 1494 pounds of milk and 4.7 percent fat, totaling 70.2 pounds of butter fat. Dry weather and fires cut milk flow. seven Holsteins and four Jerseys make up the merit class, with R. F. E. Head owning the largest single herd at four merit cows.
Batavia hosts a Children’s Play Festival directed by the Youth’s Superintendent. All Batavia children and nearby residents meet at 8:45 Friday afternoon at the town hall, then the Boy Scout Band leads a procession to the Chau tauqua grounds for games races contests and a ticket hunt with finders keepers. Parents are invited to attend and watch the youngsters enjoy the event.
C. C. Hayden of the Ohio Experiment Station reports in the August bulletin that heavier feeding and extra cow care boosted production. One cow produced 80 percent more milk and 67 percent more butterfat, saving 77 cents per 100 pounds milk and 23 cents per pound butterfat. Another cow rose 87 percent milk and 80 percent butterfat, costing 57 cents less per 100 pounds milk and 15 cents less per pound butterfat. Lower costs arise from minimal additional time, no extra stall space, or new equipment.
Clermont county farmers learn of a seven session series on soil fertility led by Prof. Bachtell of the University. Meetings include acidity testing, with locations in Amelia, New Richmond, Mt. Carmel, Bethel, Felicity, Williamsburg and Newtownsville during the week of September 5. Farmers urged to bring soil samples and school agriculture classes invited. County Agricultural Agent S. B. The CO, G. & P. R. BR. employees and road officials plan a picnic at Highland Park on September 7 or 8. The day will feature outdoor games for all ages with attendance arranged for parts of the day including afternoon or evening segments.
Next Saturday marks the Batavia Chautauqua opening with six days of afternoon and evening entertainments on Batavia school grounds. A morning Junior Chautauqua offers boys and girls engaging sessions supervised by a trained leader. Music, speakers, elocutionists, and varied acts headline daily programs, all endorsed by readers of last week's issue.

The Harvest Home of Anderson township held at Coney Island last week drew large crowds, especially Saturday. The grounds were crowded and the weather ideal for the occasion. The fruit poultry culinary and needle departments offered vast variety and quality. Candidates from Clermont and Hamilton counties drew many visitors, with exhibits preferred over county fairs. Managers ensured well cared for public and attractive booths. attendance surpassed last year.
Rain in the past two weeks spurs strong growth in tobacco corn and pasture. Farmers report thousands of bushels of corn produced after late rains though full crop prospects remain uncertain. Potatoes sell wholesale at 1 dollar per bushel unsorted.

Two transformers owned by the Board of Public Affairs in Batavia burned out Friday evening just after power was restored. Miss Minnie York daughter of James York and wife and Steve Schisler of Dayton were married last Saturday afternoon by Rev. Simpson. They will reside in Dayton where the groom has a furnished suite. They receive the best wishes of many friends for their future happiness.
Tomato canneries at Amelia and Williamsburg are now operating producing vegetables for winter use. Crop quality is fine and yields are expected to be heavy after recent rains. Retail price remains high while contract price is unchanged.

County reports heavy storm loss with corn nearly ruined at the infirmary farm. Much of the crop pulled up or broken, silo moved from its foundation but still standing, producing a far short harvest than expected.
Williamsburg Grange No. 1999 hosted two August programs open to all Grangers and families. On August 5 at 2 p m children performed songs recitations and music. On August 19 at 8 p m the youth presented the play Engaged by Wednesday. Next meeting September 2 will be led by married ladies with Mrs Pearl Marshall and Mrs Cora Smith assisting.
Clifford Hayden an 18 year old son of Avon Hayden of Moscow died August 21 at Felicity after a horse stepped on his foot two weeks earlier causing pain and complications leading to lockjaw. Parents and home neighbors extend sympathy.
The New Richmond light plant reports a defective foundation under the large engine powering the generator causing wobble and safety concerns. Repairs are arranged, commercial lights will be limited for a few days, and a portable engine has been secured to operate the dynamo.
The teachers' examination held in Batavia on Friday drew about 85 applicants, with the majority listed as beginners. Many schools plan to start on September 26, though Batavia schools will open late due to the Chautauqua and a new school building.
The Batavia school board awarded the sewer line contract to N B Dennison for 958 dollars. The project runs from the school building down Broadway to Weaver alley then Main street with eight inch tile and two man holes, starting immediately.

The Cast Winfield reunion gathered 60 guests at C L Casts Eden ton home with lawn tables and seasonable fare. Guests traveled from Cuba Wilmington Morrow Ogden Norwood Monroe Orgonia West Carrollton South Solon Cincinnati and Maryville Mo. Music enhanced the event and plans were set for the 1917 reunion on the fourth Saturday of August with officers Hampton Winfield president Minnie P Cast vice president Jennie Cuba secretary T J Winfield treasurer and C L Cast George Winfield Lawrence Winfield on the executive committee.
The annual Anstaett Miller families reunion will be hosted by Chas. K. Anstaett on Labor Day September 4. All relatives are invited to attend and spend the day together.
The 89th and 175th O V I reunions meet in Milford on September 20 with Mayor SedERberg delivering the welcome address. Exercises occur in the town hall and dinner is served by the Woman's Relief Corps. A general invitation is extended.

Main street sewer extends from P. F. Jamieson's residence to the corner to serve Dr. J. K. Ashburn's cellar drainage. Town furnishes tile, Ashburn directs the project, and a crew is finishing the work. Carpenter work on his new Tobasco residence proceeds under Scott Jeremiah's supervision.
Miss Laura Hunt of Willowville died at her niece's Walnut Hills home Sunday after a stroke and hospitalization in Cincinnati. Services will be held at Olive Branch M E Church Wednesday with interment in Olive Branch Cemetery.
