A battered safe taken from Mayhugh's Used Furniture Store on Main Street Amelia was found in a field by local riders along Mt. Holly Lindale Road near Leeds Road. Names include Linda Constable and others.
A 63-year-old man is jailed in Clermont County on a $2500 bond for reentry of a home after entering Mrs. Florence Parrotts Batavia residence on Third and North Streets. He was identified as Arthur C. Schultz and Arthur Cronin, with a fictitious Berea Kentucky address. no ID, and a luggage grip found at Cincinnati Greyhound station held no papers.
Ohio Department of Public Welfare figures show Clermont County with 660 persons on Aid for the Aged in June 1963. Aid to Dependent Children accounts for 271 cases with 1,155 recipients including 861 children. 27 cases under aid to the blind. 164 on aid for the disabled. Nine families totaling 38 people in Clermont received general relief only.
Goshen superintendent Robert E. Gower announced a September 3 start for Goshen Schools with a half-day session. Grades 5–12 report between 11 and 12, except ninth grade which starts at 12. Junior high and high school resume full days September 4 from 8:00 to 2:20, K–4 and ninth grade from 9:15 to 3:30, with projected enrollment about 2,400 students.
Clermont County Knothole teams fared well at the National Knothole Tourney in Cincinnati. Amelia Redlegs drop first game to Kentucky squad 1-0 but win Consolation 3-1 in extras. Amelia Pins ons win 4-1 on Robert Hahn’s one hit pitching. CC0F edges Amelia 2-1. Carmel falls 5-3 to L and L Supply. Goshen and Amelia Tigers reach Cincinnati event with one run losses opening.
Milford plans add a second bus for Clermont County Historical Society history tour to Kentucky. Reservations urged early. price refunds if overbooked. The group leaves Milford Shopping Center at 8 a.m. Sunday Sept 29 and returns by 9 p.m. visiting the Old State House in Frankfort and graves of Daniel and Rebecca Boone.
Two 17 year olds from Warren County were taken into custody by Deputies Laffleur and Lytle after a home break in at Thomas A. Bellan in Goshen. A neighbor interrupted one youth, the other fled after a minor accident. A sack with 35 dollars in pennies and 15 dollars in silver was found in the car. One youth had a prior record of 43 house break ins and probation since 1962. The pair were turned over to juvenile authorities by Sheriff Dericks.
Branch Hill Miamiville Road reports say 30 mail boxes and posts were torn down. Sheriff Clyde Dericks will notify postal authorities. Residents Milton Woods Dan Weber Estell Childers Arthur Wood and Herbert Spurling reported the damage.
J A Ashton 78 of State Route 133 prepares to retire from the Clermont County board of education on December 31 after 28 years of service. He recalls changes since 1936 including staff, districts, and student totals, and hopes his record guides future trustees. Only one candidate has filed for the board seats, with a possible write-in if public support appears.
MT. Washington obituary for Isadore Schwartz 59 proprietor of Schwartz Department Store. He collapsed at the Mt. Washington store Monday and died at a Cincinnati hospital from a heart attack. Survived by wife Pauline two daughters Mrs Bernard Zakem of Owenton KY and Mrs Norman Treeser of Berkeley CA and sister Mrs Lawrence Hart.
William H. Zimmer of Cincinnati Gas and Electric presents the first copy of CG&E’s 44 page Area Development brochure to Ohio Governor James A. Rhodes in Columbus. The publication highlights southwestern Ohio as a site for new industry and expansion and will circulate nationwide to potential investors and officials.
Clermont County residents viewed 11 cancer education films in the American Cancer Society booth at the county fair. Education chairwoman Mrs Ettamaye E Jones and her two sons Daniel and Leon II led the projector team with several volunteers. Teens showed strong interest in the anti smoking film highlighting health hazards. Films displayed included Is Smoking Worth It Inside Magoo Life Story Traitor Within Man Alive.
The Mulberry Zoning Commission schedules a public hearing for a zone change to permit a 1,000 foot State Route 28 shopping strip along the former Costello farm. Dryden Jones seeks residential to business change with agent Jerry Crain for a store-by-store development in Miami Township Hall.
The Courier will not publish on Tuesday next week because of the Labor Day holiday. The newspaper will resume its twice weekly schedule the following week.
The Ries Manufacturing Company near Moscow, maker of hospital equipment, was burgled Monday night. Thieves broke the safe and stole $25 cash and a $100 camera. Mayor Henry Cushard discovered the break and Sheriff Clyde Dericks was notified. Deputy Glenn Ankrom investigated, saying intruders climbed a fence and used a punch and hammer to force the safe.
