The Clermont County Teachers Institute began a weeklong session in New Richmond with daily programs and guest speakers. A long list of active members is named, and high school and district registration details in Milford Oak Leaf Withamsville New Richmond list games and a fatal accident precedes school openings.
Dr F A Ireton and Lloyd Harlow form a new partnership to sell Ford cars in Bethel where the business currently operates. Ireton will not move his family for a while, if at all, as the venture begins.
William Finley was found guilty by the common pleas court on charges of uttering and publishing a forged instrument. Judge Charles White presided with Harry Britton as prosecutor and Jos. I. Williams for defense. Victim identified as Mrs. Suseie Kessler. Penalty ranges from one to twenty years in the Ohio Penitentiary.
An all day picnic is planned next Sunday September 2 to dedicate the new State Park donated by Jos Broadwell. The Daughters of American Revolution oversee the afternoon program. Ezra Seyler was named trustee to fill the unexpired term of his late brother Albert. Charles Anstead was elected delegate to the annual conference with Henry Bissants as alternate. Services Sunday morning drew many visitors from out of town and next Sunday evening the last union service will be held at the M E church with Rev Stadford preaching before conference. Benham returns to the pulpit after a vacation.
Citizens urge Batavia officials to enforce ordinances and prosecute speeding drivers after a Friday night accident. Proposals include a water break several inches high with stop signs, a traffic light, or other measures to protect lives and limbs.
Visitors to the 78th Ohio State Fair in Cincinnati area will see the little 16 by 19 foot Grant cabin from Point Pleasant Clermont county. The cabin is celebrated as the birthplace of Ulysses S Grant and will be part of fair attractions with Civil War veterans Old Guard in attendance. Expert piano tuning by W. O. Kirk is listed among fair offerings.
Mrs Albert Mardis and Mrs Clark Brothers announce the marriages of their children Virginia Mardis and Stanley Brothers to be held September 8 at 3 p.m. at Mrs John Lutes home. a miscellaneous shower is set for September 5 at Mrs Clark Brothers' Olive Branch residence.
Despite daytime threats, St Andrew parish Milford hosted a Carnival with a perfect night and a record crowd. Bratwurst booths stayed busy as attendees sought the Chevrolet coach on display. Ralph Bickle won the car. In Kenton Thomas R Miller, a Roundhead farmer, reports killing 2498 crows earning 622.60 in bounty as a state record claim.
The Batavia Band's season closes soon after several well attended weekly concerts. Next Friday features a varied program with Celebrity Overture, Sunshine wises-Operatic Mingle, Typhosa His Excellency, and intermissions. Cecil Wallace directs the Northwest ern Band with a schedule including Gypsie Festival and International Peace.
The County Health Board named Dr. C R Colburn Batavia as County Health Commissioner at 1500 dollars yearly for part time and Mrs Ruth Patchell Stonebick as county nurse full time at 2000 yearly. They take office September 1 with meetings by call.
I O O F gathering at Star Lake near Mt Crab drew many members from Brown County. Speakers included George Brown Lebanon James Fitzpatrick Bethel and Rev Quinlan Georgetown. Recitations by Lucille Kellum Emogene Pence Virginia Trisler. I O O F Home Band Springfield and Williamsburg Mt Crab Marathon orchestras provided music. The day ended as a successful community event.
A visitor group praised Georgetown as the garden spot of the world after viewing displays at several homes. They highlighted flowers at Mrs. Anne Fee’s South Pleasant street and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hall’s West Grant avenue, with local residents buoyed by this season’s showing. Clermont county tobacco growers report a fast ripening crop with plans to house most of it within ten days, despite barn space shortages and earlier plant shortages in spring.
The Rolling Stone's youth troupe from Ohio, a brother sister duo, perform music, recitals and songs at Bethel School Auditorium next Saturday at 8 PM and a Sunday 2:30 PM religious program. Proceeds fund the Stones' education and Bethel Grant Memorial Building.
Miss Frances Burlew of Olive Branch conducts the store business for Mrs. Bess Glancy while she vacations in California, keeping operations steady during the absence.
At Clermont County Experiment Farm the Poultry Day program on September 7 1928 begins at 10 30 a m with trips to the poultry house led by R W Prange and to the pallet range led by G B Vickers. Sessions cover mash vs mash and grain, pullette vs yearling hens, feeding methods, and improving old houses. Afternoon talks include beak trimming, worm eradication, and new Ohio Experiment Station findings with R W Prange G S Vickers and Lyman Peck. Guides will accompany visitors to orchard and field crop plots. W B Weaver.
