Batavia school will start the 1941-42 term on September 8 with minimal teaching staff changes. Coach Ed Jucker resigns to join the Navy and new teachers Miss Jerry Wasner and Miss Virginia Stafford fill vacancies. Amelia school also opens September 8 with an all day session, buses unchanged, cafeteria on first day, and parents invited to help with registration.

Meeting at Courthouse Discusses Youth Defense Program
A courthouse meeting led by Floyd J. Ruble, Southern Ohio Field Supervisor, outlined a new program to aid youths past high school age with training to improve industry job prospects. Ohio officials outlined changes to driver licenses with 800 names released for Clermont County deputies readying 1942 licenses. Licenses go on sale September 8 with a due date of September 30, 1941. revised fees include 40 cents for drivers and 65 cents for minors’ temporary permits. Temporary permits require parental approval and accompanying licensed driver. Newcomers and lapsed licenses receive temporary permits. exams by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Browning charged with first degree murder in Wellington slaying
John T. Browning 48 is charged with first degree murder for the shooting of Warren Wellington on August 18. Browning had been jailed nine days before the affidavit was filed as Everett Jobe signed the document. The case moves to a preliminary hearing before Mayor J. M. Wiseman in Batavia township and may proceed to a October grand jury.

Batavia Botavians Triumph 2-1 Over Ken-Ridge in Ten Innings
Batavia Botavians AA Knot Hole team extended their win streak to 14, beating Ken-Ridge 2 to 1 in ten innings. Ken-Ridge tied it with a fourth inning double and single, but Batavia defense and late two-base plays sealed the victory. Bobby Day delivered the decisive RBI in the tenth as Puckett shut down Ken-Ridge in the top half. The win keeps Batavia undefeated and sets up a Sunday game versus the Max Elkus Stars at Neer Creek field.

Adams county reunion moves to Serpent Mound state memorial on Labor Day Monday September 1 1941 at 2 PM. Principal address by Dean Stanley Lebanon Ohio renowned attorney historian and orator. Event features prize contests local talent fiddlers dancing singing and first public inspection of the new Serpent Mound Museum built with native chestnut and NYA help. 12 000 attended last year and 15 000 expected with cooperation from the Ohio State Archaeological and Historical Society and local committee chaired by A E Johnson. Picnic facilities and concessions planned.

Last week the local Boy Scout troop led by Judge Halbisch traveled through the Great Smoky area visiting Norris Dam Cumberland Pinnacle Cumberland Falls Levi Jackson State Park and the Cherokee Indian Reservation across Kentucky Tennessee and North Carolina. The four day trip cost about five dollars per person.
