County roads ferry Clermont teachers to Bethel for a five day Teachers Institute. Bethel welcomes visitors with open homes and a busy program featuring strong talent and popular evening entertainments. An unusually large associate membership aids expenses.

In last week’s issue the price for adults was listed as 75 cents and children as 60 cents. The correction states adults now pay 50 cents and children 26 cents. All readers are asked to note the change.
Felicity residents announce a three day Chautauqua on August 25 27 and 28 with tickets selling well and broad support from old and young. The program is attractively priced. guests included Mr and Mrs William Kirby of Dayton Miss Mabel Glancy of Cincinnati H S Glancy and family Tom Glancy and Allen Glancy and wives. The day was enjoyed by all.
Batavia group met at the school house to back six men for the council in the November election. Endorsed candidates are F. C. Walt, Chas G. White, H. B. Moore, Julian Fishback, Homer M. Kain and E. E. Peterson. Petitions circulated at Nash's Drug Store for signatures.
Time for filing petitions to place candidates on the November ballot is September 6, sixty days before the election. Petitions are arriving by mail and many offices may be left vacant. A candidate needs 26 signatures from voters who have not signed another petition for the same office.
National reunion of the 824th field artillery including Clermont members meets in Newark on August 31 and September 1. A fine program is prepared with attendees paid for their trip and time. It offers a chance to renew old acquaintances and form new ones.
A large Jackson family reunion was held at Wm Gillaspie’s home on Sunday August 12 marking the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Gillaspie. Attendees included many relatives from Bethel Mt Washington Nicholsville Ludlow Cin Batavia Evansville Evansville Oakley and Hamilton. The event featured a plentiful dinner and social hours with plans to meet again next year.
Cleveland report notes only 39.8 percent of Clermont county homes stores and factories have electric service. Survey by Electrical World for Ohio public utility committee shows 1,440 of 8,680 homes use electricity 200 of 510 stores are electrified 60 industrial plants exist with 30 consuming electric power.
Batavians toured the caves in Highland County on Sunday praising the scenery and noting a history spanning over a century. They urged investment to improve access and turn the site into a state attraction, criticizing the current road and lack of facilities and blaming the owners for not developing the grounds.
Houston Townsley son of Mr and Mrs Mart W Townsley well known in Bethel and surrounding territory was killed replacing a transformer at Kroger Hill Camp near Milford on Tuesday August 14. He was 88 and survived by widow Merle Dean two daughters Lena and Helen and brother Guy. Funeral Thursday at 2 pm with Rev N Fisher officiating, burial in New cemetery. Townsley’s death followed contact with a 2800 volt line while using a safety belt to stay on the pole. The N and W Railroad ordered a new water tank for Bata via, boosting town water rents and possibly a higher capacity pump at the power house.
The Amelia hosted the Clermont County Baptist Association on Thursday and Friday September 13 and 14. The program included opening services sermons readings reports of committees devotionals missions and talks by state and local church leaders with officers elected and various society reports. Delegates and visitors were advised transport via Linwood buses and meals were provided by Amelia Church members.
In memory of May Davis Reed Griggs born May 16 1969 died August 9 1923 at age 54. She lived most of her life in Williamsburg was a musician teacher and Sunday school worker and press correspondent for the Clermont Courier. Survived by M B Griggs and relatives. Her life of service and faith ends as she rests in hopeful eternal reunion Over There.
A widow Mrs M B Griaas expresses sincere thanks for kindness during her wife's long illness and death. She credits the Methodist choir Rev Lippert and Mr N T Daily for support and services. Special gratitude to Miss Ida Curry for tireless comfort.
Farmers in Seaman Ohio report corn stalks unusually tall with ears set far apart. One observer notes corn 16 feet 4 inches tall and the first ear ten feet from the ground requiring stepping ladders for harvest.
Charles W. Montgomery, chair of the Republican State Committee, analyzes the first six months of Governor Donahey's tenure as marked by inconsistencies and reversals. He criticizes appointments as meddlesome, questions competency, and accuses the governor of pushing unwanted road contracts rather than the promised $5,000 to $7,000 per mile. He notes votes on veto power, constitutional changes, and judge expansions, including many vetoes.
Williamsville Ohio August 12 the Stankorb family held a reunion at the home of Mr and Mrs George Stankorb to mark the nineteenth birthday of Mrs Roy Stankorb and the eleventh birthday of Clara Lillian the Stankorb granddaughter. Guests included Howard and Raymond Stankorb and families from Linwood Oakley Tabasco Cincinnati Union Chapel and others. A noon table featured a large birthday cake with pink roses and candles followed by ice cream and cake as the day closed with wishes for many more happy birthdays.
Clermont's share of the Auto License Tax money arrived and is being distributed this week. The total up to August 23 includes amounts allocated to Milford New Richmond Newtonsville Owen Ville Williamsburg and others with village sums listed. The money funds village road upkeep while township licenses go to the county fund for roads. The taxing district receives half the license money and the State the other half for road use.
West Union Ohio August 22. Thomas Nevil of near Seaman reports a farm yield of 42 bushels of wheat per acre from four acres, totaling about 170 bushels. He cites the Seee state ie rae of wget ois as the farm standard.
Clermont County Agricultural Agent reports July figures from poultry demonstration farms show steady production as well fed flocks continue laying. The analysis notes that hens productive through most of the year outperform those with seasonal peaks and warns against keeping birds with signs of poor health.
Buerkle and Pringle of Batavia begin pike contracts in Brown County near Ripley with substantial excavation ahead. Weather is the sole potential delay while Clermont County on the Davis Pike advances quickly and is expected to finish on schedule as a beneficial improvement.
