A romantic verse envisions a united world under a glorious standard. It proclaims tyrants fleeing before a motto of love as storms rage. The speaker foresees oppressed peoples find home, exiles feel their native sky, and nations joining in a sublime global mission.
Fragmented OCR renders a garbled patriotic lyric with mangled phrases and misspellings. The passage imitates the Star Spangled Banner and a pledge, with distorted lines about dawn’s early light, stripes and stars, rockers, and victory.
Fragmentary patriotic verse extols the red white and blue. calls on heroes to unite and defend liberty and Columbia. Refrains praise Washington and national unity with references to army and navy and three cheers for the flag.
A garbled hymn fragment praises liberty and the nation. It references fathers gods and protectors, invoking a wish for freedom and guidance from a great God. The text blends errors that obscure a clear author or event.
An 8a Wellington proposal would arm curious civilians to fight. After pressure from amused countrymen to view battles, he ordered civilians to be armed and placed in the ranks alongside soldiers. General Scott issued a similar order to draft any civilian attempting to cross lines on the eve of battle.
