Marathon Race to Benefit Clermont County Handicap Fund

Amelia invites runners to a benefit marathon starting at Amelia grade school at 8:30 a.m. Saturday August 18. The route goes to Clermont County airport and back with 500 to 700 runners and a top wheelchair participant from the nation, registration on race day.

Spaces remain for the Clermont County YWCA annual August Auguries to be held Saturday August 25 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Main Street Batavia will host booths lining the event with vendors and activities for families.

Woman Recreation Director Chosen in Clermont County

Clermont County Commissioners approved the hiring of Mapes, 35, formerly a physical education instructor at Clermont Northeastern High School, to direct the Recreation Commission. Mapes learned of the appointment by The Courier and expressed enthusiasm. She has earned coach of the year honors in 1976 and 1978 and also coached track. The appointment was by unanimous recommendation of the Recreation Commission and Park Board director Ken Stewart. Robert Fawley resigned as recreation director effective Aug. 3.

CART seeks county liability assumption for arrested protesters use of buses

CART plans to request the county take responsibility for buses used in riots or demonstrations with potential bodily injury or property damage. The group states it would defend and pay on behalf of others for injuries caused. A Hauck application form may be reviewed to assess possible changes.
