Ohio Gasoline Tax Revenues Forecast for 1929

State Auditor Joseph T. Tracey estimates 1929 receipts under the 4c gasoline law will total 34 million dollars. Distribution planned includes 1.2 million to unused gas, 4.92 million to counties, 5.74 million to municipalities by motor population, 7.38 million to highway maintenance, 13.12 million to construction, and 1.64 million to townships. First township allotment of 250 dollars will be issued late August. The note criticizes road conditions despite ample funding.

Directors Meeting Plans Fox Hunters Fight Trial and Beach Show

Batavia hosts the Southern Ohio and Northern Kentucky Fox Hunters Association meeting on August 8 to arrange a fight trial and beach show set for October 20 to 25. Home Coming at Maple Grove Church Sunday

A home coming is planned for Sunday August 25 at Maple Grove church on Jackson pike. Rev. A. G. Newton of Blanchester will preach the morning sermon and Congressman Charles C. Kearns of the 6th District will speak in the afternoon. A basket dinner will be served at noon. all are welcome.

Lets Go County Fair at Owensville Next Week

Owensville hosts a county fair August 20 to 28 with daily programs and free animal exhibitions. Three bands perform daily, races feature noted horses, ample auto parking, and a Daughters of Rebekah lunch stand plus Odd Fellows events. Auto admission reduced to 25 cents.

In Lima area, William H. Bradford grows what may be the world’s only green gladiolias. The 30 inch tall plant, taking two years to produce, arose from grafting seven color varieties and could mean great fortune if the trait remains stable.

Summer commencement at Home Graduates Wilmington College

Wilmington College will graduate 160 students in a summer ceremony on Saturday afternoon August 17. Of these 184 receive diplomas for two years and 26 for four years, with June totals 48 two-year and 66 four-year graduates, for 268 total in the year.

The Frank W. Weaver Post of the American Legion teams with Batavia High School Band for a Labor Day program in Batavia. Ball games precede and follow the day with an evening event at the town hall. Drowning at Terrace Park Pool Claims Milford Girl

Seven year old Mary Gatch daughter of Mr and Mrs John N Gatch of Garfield Avenue Milford drowned Thursday afternoon in the Drury swimming pool at Terrace Park near her home. Ed McKinney caretaker and Albert McMullen helped recover the body. Life Saving Squad and Dr Belt tried two hours to revive her. Funeral held Saturday.

Padding Payroll Scandal Hits Adams County Highway Dept

State Examiner H D Fitzpatrick found former Adams county highway superintendent Frank R Carroll padded payrolls to extract more than 5000 from the state over four years. He listed his wife a father in law and a fictitious person on the payroll and cashed checks to others. Checks were connected to Z M Carroll G Farlow and R M Carroll. Carroll sold state property and lacked receipts for truck use. He lived in Jacktown and worked from Chillicothe office.

Limitation on Gas Tax Share Hinders Township roadwork

Columbus Ohio August 8 The Legislature limits townships share of the one cent gasoline tax to construction reconstruction and widening roads. Attorney General Gilbert Bettman says each township will receive over 1200 annually but none of the funds may be used for maintenance and repair under current law. Many counties face the same issue though Clermont has roads qualifying for reconstruction or widening. Trustees are entitled to the money.

Pullen Anniversary Party Honors Twelfth Year

More than a hundred friends and relatives gathered August 10 on the Pullen home lawn in Kline Heights to celebrate the couple’s twelfth wedding anniversary. Guests included Mrs. J. W.
