Governor backs five year Atlantic and Pacific Highway plan
Governor Cooper announced a five year program to hard surface the Atlantic and Pacific Highway from Cincinnati to Ironton Ohio. He pledged bridge replacements in Brown and Adams counties and outlined funding of sixty thousand dollars for bridges and one hundred sixty thousand for maintenance this year. The tour included Ripley Point Pleasant and Cincinnati end inspections with officials and local leaders present.

River Tragedy Drowns Victor Nobis of New Richmond
Victor Nobis 34 founder of Nobis Bros Coal Co and former New Richmond-Portsmouth Bus Line owner drowned in the Ohio River when hurled from a motorboat near New Richmond Ohio. Witnesses saw the accident. his body later found near the dam. Funeral set for Monday.

Robbery at Economy Drug Store Foiled by Hartman Watch
Three suspicious individuals in a Dodge coupe attempted a late night break in at the Economy Drug Store in New Richmond. Arthur Hartman and Marshal Joe Colonel detained them, with Sheriff Roberts and deputies joining the scene. Arrested were Jos Henderson, Jos Beckner, and Jean Keller of Newport, Kentucky, plus a colored man. A 45 caliber revolver and moon were found. the trio await a hearing in Batavia. The woman was released. the men face court today.

Presbyterians Meet at Bantam Fairgrounds
The Home Coming of the Presbyterians of Clermont county at Rapps Grove Bantam Fairgrounds Sunday was a grand success. Representatives came from all parts of the county and talks were given by Congressman Kearns S W Haussersmann and others. Rev F Hartman of New Richmond presided. A flag was presented to Bantam Presbyterian Church by the D of A of Winton Place. Mrs Ruse Brown gave the response. The meeting was unanimously voted to be an annual event including all churches with a committee appointed to organize and set the date. Short talks closed the event.

Corner Stone Laying For Grant Community Building
The cornerstone ceremony at Bethel occurred last Friday afternoon in a quiet service. A sealed box of documents and local records was placed in the cornerstone. The brick building, at the old Links homestead lot, will feature an auditorium and caretaker apartments as the project nears dedication. The Friday committee included Mrs. Chas. F. Davis, Mrs. H B. Hutson, Mrs. A. R. Bloteher, and Mrs. R. B. Wilson.

Fatal drowning at gravel pit pool near Highland county line
Carl Thompson, 20, drowned in a gravel pit pool ten miles north of Winchester Sunday evening while friends watched. He disappeared beneath the water around 8 p.m. and was recovered that night. The notice warns local swimmers to take precautions after a recent near miss. The Carthage fair is scheduled for August 14 to 16.
