Oliver Carnell of Ten Mile roams the Batavia area and escapes to a bridge chase with Deputy Buvinger Sheriff Teal and accomplices in pursuit. Carnell leaps from a wagon into East Fork waters as Teal ascends a bridge ladder, then is seized and restrained after a dramatic water struggle. He is taken to the jail and prepared for transfer to Athens for asylum treatment.

Thomas Stagg, 68, newly elected Summit County Sheriff, is killed in Utah while pursuing horse thieves. His deputy Dawes dies in the first volley as outlaws flee to a cabin. Stagg leaves a widow and seven children. He was a respected former Batavia resident and half brother to Mrs. A. M. Dimmitt. The killers are pursued for justice.

Hulick and Weaver Families Hold 22nd Reunion at New Boston
The Hulick and Weaver families gathered at New Boston fair grounds last Saturday for their 22nd reunion. About 1500 attendees from four corners of the Union enjoyed speakers, music, and readings, with Abram Hulick presiding. The program included Batavia orchestra numbers, choir selections, readings, and a vegetarian spread. bicycle and potato races followed dinner. Officers for the next year were elected: A. Hulick president, W. Duckwall vice president, Anna Rawson secretary, Lucian Weaver treasurer, with several Hul Hs and other named members on the executive committee.

Milford Barber Pretends to Be Insane in Lunacy Case
Phillip Kuhn of Milford, a harness maker and barber, was held in an infirmary cell and faced transfer to Athens asylum. Witnesses testified to periodic insanity with violent spells after a head injury at age 17. His father and brother posted bonds and regained custody, leaving Kuhn sane with lucid lunacy intervals.

Hillsboro Gazette notes rumors that Zachariah Lewis the Loud forger has been hiding in Adams County and met with relatives on a farm hillside. Reports claim relatives received 2000 to 3700 and 10000 from the bond fraud with two referees and a black hand satchel present. A detective has searched but no arrests made. Lewis may remain in country if not already gone.
