Straw Stack Fire at Afton Destroys Stack and Threatens Barn
John Harold, a prosperous farmer in the Afton neighborhood, had thrashers at his place last week when a wheat harvest left a fine stack of straw. The straw suddenly ignited and burned before firefighters could extinguish it, with hard work needed to save outbuildings. Fire and straw don’t last long together.

Spontaneous Fire Destroys Eyler Barn in Ash Ridge Ohio
A large stock barn and two silos owned by J J Eyler burned completely between five and six Sunday morning in Ash Ridge Ohio. Fire started in a recently stocked barn with clover and new hay on old fodder. Neighbors spotted smoke early. an explosion appeared to trigger the blaze. Cribs and nearby outbuildings were saved, livestock were not in the barn, and the structure was partially insured.

The Burley Tobacco Growers Association of Lexington Ky has formed a contract for a site in Hillsboro to build a tobacco warehouse. A second contract covers moving a warehouse from Ripley to Hillsboro with construction to be awarded to S T McMilan of Hillsboro once materials arrive. The site will be bought from Charles L Carroll on land formerly owned by John Free near the N and W depot with a railroad switch aiding shipments.
