Clermont County Fair set to open with polo highlight

Clermont County's 106th annual Fair begins next Wednesday at Owensville for four days. The program touts its best ever attractions and includes polo featuring teams from southern Ohio and central Ohio with several local residents, including a fair board member, expected to attend.

Blind craftsman Ted Davis returns to Clermont County Fair booth

Ted Davis, a blind broom and chair maker, will again occupy a booth at the Clermont County Fair with sponsorship from the Batavia Rotary Club Clermont Courier and the Fair Board. Davis has demonstrated broom making and home articles at the past six fairs. His items will be for sale at the booth.

Storm Damages Crop and Buildings in Franklin Area

A Sunday night storm centered in Franklin area caused thousands in tobacco losses on local farms. Heavy hail damaged tobacco and buildings on the Alva Sandborn, Barney Ross, Larson, and Loren Liming farms were seriously damaged.

Exempted Status Assured for Bethel School District

The Bethel Bethel-Tate district is set to gain exempted status after the census counted 125 residents over the 2000 minimum for exemption. Vernon L. Miller led the census with assistance from Mrs. Mabel Morehead Mrs. Lucille Painter Mrs. Evadna De Maris and Mrs. Amy Dumford under Miss Lou anna Foster. The district would be the fourth exempted in Clermont County joining Loveland Milford and New Richmond.

Store Looted at Cash Day Grocery Route 131

A large quantity of cigars was stolen from the Cash Day grocery on Route 131 Monday night. Sheriff Clyde Dericks reported the break in and said entry was gained through a garage door.

State and National Funds Split for Clermont County Education

Clermont County received 2,632,287.80 in state and federal funds for the year ending June 30, 1953, led by education allocations of 1,061,797.85 from state sources and 29,250.66 from miscellaneous funds. total local government and welfare aid plus health, public welfare, and library disparities are detailed, with six counties missing state public library aid. Ohio Auditor James A. Rhodes released the breakdown showing major aid to education and welfare programs, including bus purchases and lunch programs.

Four Are Injured In Car Collision Near Loveland

At the intersection of Lebanon and Dallasburg Roads three miles east of Loveland Ohio four persons were injured in a collision Monday night. Kenneth L. Sollenberger 38 Owensville failed to yield to Arthur F Eldred 35 Mason Road leading to injuries to Alma Eldred 36 Donna Sollenberger 43 Nellie Shuler 18 and Eldreds back and right arm. Sollenberger was cited by the State Highway Patrol.

Watts Cookin at Fair exhibit heats up Owensville

The Watts Cookin exhibit runs August 18 to 21 at the Fairgrounds in Owensville. Visitors can play an audience participation game and win cast iron skillets and plastic measuring spoons. The display promotes electric cooking as fast, clean, safe, thrifty, automatic, and efficient. Pioneers Gordon Jackson and others from the Rural Electric Sales Department of the Cincinnati Gas and Electric Co will staff the booth to answer questions about using electricity in cooking.
