Navy deserter Yates captured near Manchester by marshal

Glenwood Yates, charged with deserting the U S Navy on September 28, 1919, was seized last week at Manchester on an order from naval officers in Norfolk. He faces transport to the Great Lakes Training Camp once the marshal secures the order. He had been close to freedom when arrested Tuesday morning.

Perry Conway from near Goshen lost a good horse in last week's storm. Frank W. Weaver of Batavia died while returning home from World War service, with burial plans pending arrival. Elizabeth Morgen of Marathon reports her son Enus was among Marines killed in World War I. Further details unclear due to damaged text.

The Loveland town council decided to oil more streets at a recent meeting. They planned early arrangements for oiling next year on main avenues and surrounding roads to keep the road bed durable while other towns enjoy dustless streets.

Headquarters Company O. N. G. Heads to Camp Perry

The Headquarters Company O. N. G. at Batavia left for Camp Perry Sunday morning with 81 men for a ten day outing. They were fully equipped and presented a fine soldiery appearance. Since the company was organized they have done considerable drill and are well prepared for camp tasks. Other district companies will join in for their outing.

Prohibition Roundup in Highland County Yields Fines

Prohibition officers in Highland County arrested two men and two women, then another couple, uncovering large stocks of home brew. A woman pleaded guilty and paid 500 dollars. another woman paid 100 dollars for 40 gallons found. A third home held 40 gallons and two dozen bottles and will have a hearing August 16. Authorities vow to continue the crackdown.
