Union Township Launches 24 Hour Patrol Plan

Union Township trustees order a crackdown on disturbances and hire a third full time officer to implement a 24 hour patrol. Patrolman Tom Thorpe’s pay rises to $515 monthly as Chief Paul Herrmann directs the 24 hour patrol initiative in Glen Este.

Village to Manufacture Its Own Traffic Signs

Village officials approved a 350 purchase to replace deteriorating traffic signs, recouping costs over time. Mayor Bernges noted CG&E raised gas rates 6.75 to 7.25 cents per thousand cubic feet due to a federal tax surcharge, affecting all customers. A traffic study on Lila Avenue near Milford Main School was authorized to evaluate one way feasibility. CG&E asked permission to lay a line from Water to Maple via Beech.

Juvenile Court Staff to Attend Seminar in Clermont County

Seven members of the Clermont County Juvenile Court staff will attend a seminar led by Chief Probation Officer Gilbert R. Dale. The program, sponsored by the Ohio Youth Commission, will cover Maximum Use of Community Service in Juvenile Court Programming and Probation Practical Techniques. Juvenile Judge Charles W. Jackson praised the staff and the cooperative support for on the job training.

West Clermont School Board Accepts Resignation and Appoints Acting Superintendent

Supt. Everett E. Park submitted his resignation to the West Clermont Board of Education at a special meeting on Aug. 1. The board accepted it effective immediately and named Lowell E. Gingrich acting superintendent. The board also awarded low bids for gasoline and motor oil, approved $592.30 for Amelia Jr. Sr. High sidewalk and door frame work, and accepted five teacher resignations while hiring seven new teachers including Richard Snyder and Ruth Anne Himes.

Services Held For Milford Druggist Ralph Puckett

Funeral services for Ralph Puckett a 72 year old druggist who owned stores in Milford Mulberry and Madisonville were held at the Monroe Copher Funeral home. Burial followed at Graceland Memorial Gardens. He opened Milford Modern Apothecary a year ago and was a Mt Repose Baptist Church member. His wife died earlier. Surviving are two daughters a step daughter five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Court Clears Lawman In Barn Owl Death

In Clermont County Court Judge John D. Erhardt dismissed charges against three officers Felicity Patrolmen Ray Hesler and Robert Bauer and Deputy Sheriff Charles Karnes for taking a non game bird. Testimony showed officers debated legality and then killed two barn owls after a child was reported endangered when the birds attacked a mother and flew into a church tower. The dismissal cited the officers actions as justified under the circumstances.

Election Officials Extend Hours For Voter Registration

Clermont County election officials extend registration hours as the all election approaches. Registration rolls list 30 078 eligible voters. Polling places and Board of Elections office open 10 am to 2 pm and 4 to 9 pm on Sept 18 with Sept 25 as deadline. Board opens 9 am to 9 pm that day. Aug 7 is filing deadline for nominating petitions for county court judge. Fair Board bans motorcycles and bicycles on fair grounds per George Mull.

Man Flees With Own Tot After Stabbing In-Law

Harry R. McCreary is held on a charge of stabbing with intent after attacking his estranged wife's brother and fleeing with the couple's two year old child. Stamm received 16 stitches and was treated at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital. Bond was set at $2000.

Batavia Bridge Hearing Set for August Bid

A public hearing at 10 a.m. on August 29 will discuss reconstructing the Batavia bridge over the East Fork of the Little Miami River to add four lanes. The notice by Ohio Director of Highways P. E. Masheter notes SR 132 and Main Street route, with a 0.1 mile project near Batavia, addressing traffic bottlenecks from convergence of SR 2 SR 222 and SR 132. Police Chief N. C. Planning Officials Name New Director

Donald L. Watkins, 36 of Sk 131 Newtonsville, named executive director of the Clermont County Planning Commission. He succeeds Donald Buckley who left to head the Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission in Portsmouth. Watkins takes the post Aug 19 with a salary of 11000 dollars per year. He is a civil engineer for the city of Ob jects and a Milford High School graduate, former Ohio State student and University of Cincinnati Evening College alumnus. He is married with two daughters.

Clermont County’s first distribution of school foundation funds totals 595,926 with 9,879 earmarked for the county board of education. Allocations include Milford 80,740 New Richmond 10,335 Batavia 17,163 Bethel 37,406 Northeastern 56,184 Felicity 22,512 Goshen 62,423 West Clermont 168,793 and Williamsburg 28,702.

Clermont County Fair Opens August 13 for 119th Year

Owensville reports the Clermont County Fair begins Tuesday August 13 at 9 a.m. and runs five days through August 17. Entries close August 10 for livestock and opening day for all other entries. Grandstand events are free afternoons. evenings 75 cents. A tractor pull, rodeo by King Brothers TXL Ranch, and a grand parade are listed with varied judging times and show schedules.
