Highland County Junior Fair Set For August At Hillsboro
Highland County hosts its first Junior Fair on August 18 and 14 at Hillsboro Fair Grounds. The 4-H Clubs run the event with Highland County Farm Bureau and County Commissioners sponsoring. About 770 youths are enrolled under 101 leaders. Exhibits showcase yearlong work with premiums including trips to State Club Congress in Columbus and county club camp. Demonstrations cover Potato Poultry Swine Garden Flower Clothing Food and Rabbit clubs. Thursday features health pageant Old Time Fiddlers Contest and Old Time Dances with the Country 4-H Club Band. A mute race Thursday afternoon draws interest.

Passing of Veteran E B Holmes From Williamsport
Veteran E B Holmes formerly of Williamsburg died August 1 in Coral Gables Florida. He served three years in the Civil War and belonged to I C C F and G A R B. He leaves a wife two daughters five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Williamsburg Methodist church with burial in Williamsburg cemetery.

Harmon Cover 91 Dies After Long Illness
Harmon Cover, 91, died at his son John’s home in Williamsburg after a long illness. A longtime county resident and last of the original Cover family, he will be buried at Milford Greenlawn Cemetery after funeral services at Monterey Presbyterian Church Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Goshen Man Killed by Train Crossing
George Ertle age 90 a retired farmer of Goshen was struck and killed by a Baltimore and Ohio train near Hills Station on Saturday while crossing the tracks in a buggy. The horse died and the buggy was wrecked. He was a Civil War veteran.

Grant Memorial Church proposed at Pt Pleasant
A large crowd in Pt Pleasant Ohio gathered Sunday to support rebuilding the Grant Memorial Church on the former M E church site destroyed two years ago. Attendees included H Anna Quinby John Hayden Rev Budd and Prof Crabtree who spoke briefly. An architect from Columbus donated his services for the project. Construction start date is not yet known.
