First Student Accepted at New Batavia College

Roger Craycraft son of Mr and Mrs Leroy Craycraft Randolph Lane graduated Amelia High School in 1971. He applied six months ago after plans for a college near Batavia became certain and is now enrolled at UC Ohio College of Applied Science studying computer and electronics engineering. He hopes aviation technical courses will be offered when the college opens in fall 1972.

Officials Seek Bids On Two County Jobs

County commissioners will accept bids until 10 a.m. September 7 for two projects. One projects covers improvements for the Pierce Union Batavia office of County Sanitary Engineer Donald Watkins located in the courthouse in Batavia Ohio.

Cemetery zoning and Sunday liquor ballot items in Pierce area

The Pierce Township Trustees seek voter approval to establish a new 20 acre cemetery at Locust Corner as the two existing graveyards are full. A zoning proposal to place on the ballot and a Sunday liquor sale petition in Milford precincts B and G are also noted alongside a list of local officials and trustees. Amelia Self Service in Amelia reopened at 8 a.m. after a three month fire that gutted the building, with interior restored and new equipment.

Clermont citizens celebrate UC ground breaking in rain

In Clermont County a formal ground breaking welcomed the University of Cincinnati set to open in fall 1972. UC executive vice president Dr Ralph C Bursick stated the project would not delay football and track, and Massey honored supporters whose names and efforts fund the site. Local officials and school leaders joined the ceremony.

Lawyers Help Sewer System Court Fight

John D. Erhardt and Hugh C. Nichols will be assistants to Attorney Robert A. Jones for a special sewer system court case in Clermont County. Estimates indicate about 2 million dollars is needed to restore proper function, with corrective work already underway. The Clermont County Hospital Commission awarded Fred A. Nemann the contract to prepare the site for the new Clermont County Hospital for 102,991 dollars at Bauer road and the Appalachian Highway, with work starting once the contract is signed, and the project will proceed before bids for construction.
