Early apple tree planted by Elijah Tatman yields fourteen apples

A May 1885 planting by Elijah Tatman produced a well formed crop of fourteen apples this year. The Cincinnati & Eastern railroad will offer round trip tickets from all line stations at a single fare to the Congressional Conventions at Batavia on August 19 and September 7.

Milford man builds stern wheeler for lake trip

Mr J A Worz of Milford has nearly finished a small stern wheeler pleasure boat. He plans to take it this week to Loveland camp grounds with a party then on to New Orleans. The engine will pass United States inspection and the craft is described as a pretty little boat.

Clermont Democrats met in Batavia to set schedules for county and state events. The primary is September 28, county convention September 25, and delegates for the September 7 Congressional convention to be chosen on the 4th. State convention delegates will be chosen next Saturday for Toledo August 17.

Mule’s leg injury after shodding sparks caution

Ed Patchell brought a mule to Batavia for shoeing by Chris Dietz. Dietz warned of a possible kick but, as he prepared, the mule suddenly kicked and bruised Dietz’s arm. Patchell doubted the mule’s prior kicking history while Dietz treated the injury.
