Plans Complete For Clermont County Flower Show

The Clermont County Federation of Garden Clubs finalizes plans for its annual flower show at Floral Hall Owensville fairgrounds August 16 to 18. New features include an educational exhibit and a class for non club members with a theme Around the World with Flowers.

Loop Games Rescheduled After Sunday Rainout

The Clermont County Independent Baseball League moved all three Sunday games to August 5 due to wet grounds. Batavia visits Owensville, Bethel goes to Loveland, and Amelia hosts Mt. Carmel. Batavia leads Bethel for prize money, with Bethel needing help and constraints on outcomes. Managers meeting for playoff pairings postponed to August 6 in Batavia.

Pet Show Delights Town as Child Lead Effort

The Courier covered a neighborhood pet show organized by local children at the Wolf home on Spring Street. Winners included Ed Griffiths and his dalmation Sarge for toy honors, while Tweedie the cat owned by Debbie Elston placed second. Judges and participants from the community enjoyed a 2:30 p.m. event with a five cent entry fee donated to winning entries.

O Neill To Speak At Pleasant Plain Homecoming

State attorney general and Republican governor candidate C William O Neill will speak Sunday at 1 45 p m during Pleasant Plain homecoming festivities August 3 4 and 5 Civic groups organize the event with Mrs W D Stewart as chair The schedule includes free movie dancing card party square dancing an evangelist sermon parade and church services with Red Turner and Rev Le Moyne Meyers in attendance.

Brothers Face Judge August 7 On Attack Count

Herbert and Glenn Simpson of Bethel two brothers charged with beating Miss Dora Abbot a Bethel elementary school teacher will appear before Judge Harry Britt on August 7 for final hearing before sentencing. Doctors at Lima State Hospital reported both men sane after their May trial. They had pleaded guilty to breaking and entering assault and battery and assault with intent to kill.

Fair To Feature Wrestling Bouts At County Fair

County fair opens with wrestling bouts on Wednesday August 15 at 8 p.m. Other events include the auto thrill show August 16 at 8 p.m. horse racing on August 16 17 18 at 1 30 p.m. and horse show polo on Wednesday Friday and Saturday at 1 30 p.m. The board of directors election takes place August 18 from noon to 3 p.m. at the treasurer’s office with one three year term from each township.

Meter Reader and Engineer Clash At County Meet

John Lally, a meter reader for the Union-Pierce-Batavia township water system, told county commissioners that flushing of water lines had begun and proposed a formal flushing program after noting cloudy water at Traction Line Rd. hydrant and clear water at his home tap. The meeting included a rebuke to Sally by county engineer Carl Rush for working beyond his authority, with instructions to address concerns to Rush.
