Still At Large Four Prisoners Escape Batavia Jail

Sheriff Auxier hunted four inmates who escaped Batavia jail Sunday morning July 23 by picking a bull pen lock and sliding down a rope of blankets. Two prisoners were carnival workers from New Richmond serving 30 days for short changing customers and are believed to have fled with the crowd to Virginia. The escape raises questions about jail security and taxpayer costs for the chase.

Newtonsville man fined for drunken driving suspension

Leroy Doughman of Newtonsville was arrested Sunday night for operating an auto while intoxicated. Mayor Halbisch fined him 100 dollars plus costs with an 80 day suspension of his operating privileges. Doughman claimed the drinks were spiked.

Cincinnati picnic ends in murder and manhunt in 1980

On July 56 1980 a Cincinnati party at Sam Glovers Ten Mile site included Will H Boshear John Spencer. Boshears shot Spencer after his wife refused to return with him. He was arrested indicted for first degree murder and sent to Lima hospital. He later escaped and is at large likely in Tennessee while still charged in Clermont county.

Odd Fellows Hold All Day Meeting in Georgetown

The Odd Fellows from the district and subordinate lodges met in Georgetown last Saturday with a record breaking crowd. Hon. Clarence Brown and other prominent men spoke as music duets and declamations filled the program. A basket dinner at noon was enjoyed by a unusually large crowd.

Dormer Bros. Knit Mill to Cease Operations in New Richmond

After 88 years the Dormer Bros. Company knitting mill will close. The plant has promoted local welfare and prosperity and will wind down as remaining activities are completed. Historically 150 to 200 workers were employed. many have been offered positions at a Cincinnati mill.

County to pay claims for dog bite injuries in rabies case

Batavia Village School Board hires two music teachers

Batavia Village School Board met Friday night and employed two music teachers Miss Collier and G L Smith. They passed a resolution to issue notes for the deficit since January 1 1938 under Renate bill 412, an emergency act from the last Legislature. The state will pay off these notes from future state aid. The total net floating indebtedness of the county school districts is over 74000 dollars.

Injunction Suit Over County Roadstone Contract Filed

George Nash filed an injunction in common pleas court against the County Commissioners and Estel Pringle to halt awarding a 600 yard stone contract on the Owensville and Belfast road in Stonelick township for 969 dollars. Clermont County Election Board met Saturday night to determine if the signatures on the old age pension petition are sufficient. The aim is to place the issue before voters on the November 1 ballot with a yes or no on the pension proposal. Clermont County had about 460 signatures to inspect, compared with Hamilton County’s 20 499.
