No Sabin Vaccine For This County

Dr. Albert E. Sabin offered to share his oral polio vaccine with Clermont County but withdrew the offer Monday after Cincinnati's mass vaccination response. About 20,000 doses were given to preschool children by private physicians on the first day and there is not enough vaccine to supply Clermont County. Dr. James MacMillan planned to administer the vaccine Friday at Mt. Moriah Church Williamsville with physicians also offering it at their offices.

Jackie Clayburn Fund formed for polio boy wheelchair needs

Mrs. Adelia M. Brown announced the Jackie Clayburn Fund to raise about 200 dollars for a wheelchair with special accessories for seven year old Jackie Clayburn, a polio survivor. Donations may be sent to The Courier in Batavia. A committee will track contributions and report progress to the public. The National Foundation and state programs may not assume further funding, as county welfare has shown interest and provided clothing purchases.

MGS Water Project Faces Regulation Hurdle Before 1960

Miami Goshen Stonelick water system engineers say the project could be ready by September 1960 but extensions to serve new areas hinge on regulatory changes. Project Engineer Jack Fuller asked county commissioners to reconsider the 45 users per mile financing rule, noting some zones have fewer than 40. Foundations for elevated tanks are in place and tanks expected in May from the contractor. The proposal calls for a conference with fiscal agents and bond buyers to revise the requirement.

Bid Opening Today For New West Clermont Buildings

Amelia James H. Woolridge, executive head of West Clermont schools, announces bids for construction of a new high school and elementary school will be received today April 28. Project cost about 1 986 422 dollars funded by a 1 124 780 dollar bond issue and 861 642 dollars state aid. Buildings include a 700 to 1500 student high school and a 420 student elementary with future expansion, modern facilities, and shared kitchen and heating systems serving both campuses. Completion set for 1961 with occupancy for 1961 62 school year.

A Batavia advertisement dated April 21 offering odd currency redemption improperly listed Cincinnati Gas and Electric Co. and Cincinnati and Suburban Bell Telephone Co. as sponsors. Regulatory rules prohibit utility participation in merchandising promos, so their names should not have appeared.

Contract Set On Odor Elimination Project In Town

New Richmond awards D E Parker Co of Cincinnati the contract to eliminate odors at the sewage plant with a bid of 17 370. The project includes a line to the Ohio River. Five bids were received with Magnus & Co of Cincinnati submitting the best bid at four percent interest and a premium of 108 on a 20 000 bond issue to finance the project.

Batavia council moves toward annexing west Batavia area

Batavia council passed a resolution to plug a sewer line outside village limits to allow time for annexation of a large tract west of the village and block a trailer court near Meadowbrook Drive. If annexed, current village trailer prohibitions would apply.

Doctors Endorse Surgical Plan For Oldsters

Milford Clermont County Medical Society at the April 20 meeting endorsed the 65 and over surgical medical plan from Ohio Medical Indemnity. Dr. Carl Minning spoke as the society’s delegate to the Ohio State Medical Association meeting in May. Dr. Robert Kemper presented an illustrated lecture on eye inflammation. Motorcycle crash Injures Andriot Family in Cincinnati

Philip Andriot and his daughter Alma were seriously hurt when their motorcycle collided with a car at the Rt 125 222 intersection near the D X Ranch. Philip and Alma were taken to Jewish Hospital with rib and internal injuries and brain contusion respectively. Stoos the car driver faced a crossing over a yellow line citation.

Postmaster Seeks House Numbers in Local Office Area

Batavia postmaster Arthur E. Hill asks county commissioners to require house numbering in the two townships served by the Batavia post office. He cites rapid area growth and says numbering will aid the fire department life squad and other services and improve postal service.

Local residents oppose trailer park proposed by William Auxier

More than 100 citizens protested a proposed trailer court by William Auxier citing lack of sewer and water service outside the village. The board had earlier granted a $75 tap-in and a $30 monthly minimum for 34 trailers but rescinded that action. Stephen A. Douglas urged reconsideration, warning such parks harm valley beauty and real estate values.

Physician Held On Abortion Count

Dr. Robert Freund, 57, of Branch Hill, faces a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. Monday in Judge Dale Osborne's county court after a Tuesday arrest under the abortion statute. The death of Mrs Beatrice Vrentas, 28, of Cincinnati, in the doctor's office prompted the probe led by Prosecutor Ralph Hill, Sheriff Clyde Dericks, and Coroner Dr A A Gruber. Freund posted 2500 bond and was released pending further proceedings.
