Four Proposals Offered To Solve Sewer Problems

Consulting engineers present four options contingent on reducing infiltration for Union Township sewer system. Proposal one adds settling units at Hall's Run and Shayler Run, improves aeration and chlorination at a $300000 cost for five years. Proposal two eliminates Shayler Run and diverts to Amelia-Batavia, adding 1 million gallons daily for about $500000. Proposal three, the most practical, costs $800000 and expands trunk lines and lift stations while adding 1 million gpd to Amelia-Batavia and applying Proposal one at Hall's Run. Proposal four, though best, is not economically feasible now, costing $2 million to transfer Shayler Run to Amelia-Batavia. A further study of Hall's Run and East Fork is recommended to move toward a future system with potential plant consolidations.
