Farmer Gets Jury Trial In Animal Neglect Case

Frank Meisman, a Laurel Lindale Rd. farmer, was arrested April 7 for neglect and cruelty to animals and granted a jury trial in county court. The trial is set for 9 am May 21. Meisman was charged by Walter Raidt, Clermont County Dog Warden and Humane Society Agent, for allowing 12 cattle to starve in recent months. Raidt and Harvey Hines found several others near death during their investigation.

Open Meeting On Monroe Zoning Set In Township

Monroe Township residents are called to an open zoning meeting on April 21 at 8 pm at Monroe Elementary School in Laurel. The Zoning Board will discuss township zoning matters under chairman Ronald Scharringhausen with members June Hughes Joanne Brown Walter Weber and Emil Hensley.

Tests Underway To Control SO Emissions At Cane Run

Tests begin in July at Louisville Gas & Electric Cane Run unit to evaluate a two stage wet scrubber system from American Air Filter Company. LG&E AAF Kentucky Utilities and Public Service Indiana sponsor the program amid ongoing research into sulfur dioxide control. CG and CG&E participate in related projects.

Burglaries Reported In Batavia On Monday Night

Two burglaries occurred in Batavia on Monday night. The Norfolk & Western Railway station was entered, with boxes of undetermined value taken. A tool shed at the Miller Valentine Co main street bridge site was broken into and several power tools valued at 1500 dollars were stolen.

Fire Chief Seeks Data on Water Mains and Zoning Rules

Fire Chief requests data on water mains and asks for a prosecutor ruling on requiring a fire plug within 200 feet of an apartment. Trustees decide to keep 1969 police cruiser as unmarked car. Romohr Road to be restored as active. US 50 relocation objections to be voiced. March finances show March expenditures $13,982.89 and first quarter receipts $19,769.57. Speed limit signs of 25 mph installed on 59 township roads.

Annexation Study Before Clermont Village Committee

Clermont County commissioners will study a proposed 600 acre annexation to the Village of New Richmond. Endorsements show 39 in favor and 34 against with two requests to remove names. four opponents now neutral. The site lies along Bethel New Richmond Road near SR 132 and Indian Creek. A decision may come in three months and the village council reportedly supports the move.

Students Unveil Batavia Main Street Revamp Plan

Miami University students propose a downtown Batavia redesign for Main Street as a quarter project led by Hall Fichter with public service by the Clermont County architect. A community committee aims to shape traffic routing around the village on the Appalachian Highway and invites town input at a gala street fair.

Goshen Clean Up Week Planned by Schools

Batavia Council approves broad pay raises for mayor and staff

Batavia Council approved salary increases across offices including mayor from 1800 to 2400 a year, clerk pay from 1.50 to 1.60 hourly, part time police from 2 to 2.50, street superintendent from 2.52 to 2.67, and chief and patrolmen in the police force. The measure takes effect next term. The council also discussed soil survey data usage, a potential operating tax levy, and extra trash pickup weeks May 10 and May 17. Howard Spaulding and others urged funding and space for youth recreation at the second floor of the municipal building, with council asked to develop a plan.

Marshal Warns Trash Burners
