Heavy rains last week slowed farm work in the section with some reporting two inches of water on Thursday. Before the downpour bottom land and sea ground were cracking and a little moisture was needed, while upland crops required none. Tobacco acreage will be planted this season as plants grow rapidly.
Crowds filled every standing space in Cincinnati and Dayton last Saturday to greet returning soldiers. The cities gave a royal welcome with the keys turned over for the brief visit, and locals foresee another large parade when the Rainbow Division arrives.
Mrs. Jacob Ansteadt Sr died at her son Albert Ansteadt’s home above Batavia after a brief illness aged 81. She leaves five sons Edward Charles Leonard Albert and Jacob and two daughters Mrs. John Schultz Owensville and Mrs. Huffman Cleveland. Funeral at the residence and church at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev Wegner. Burial in Union cemetery. She was a Christian woman respected by all who knew her.
The Ladies host a dance at the armory on Friday night April 25 with fine music and orderly fun. Proceeds benefit the Red Cross and all are invited to attend for a good time.
Government Tank No 4 to tour Clermont and nearby counties promoting the Fifth Liberty Loan. The schedule lists arrivals and departures across Goshen Loveland Milford Williamsburg Bethel New Richmond Chile and Chilo with specific times from April 23 to April 28.
The Krippendorf farm near Perintown hosted a large crowd last week for a daffodil display aiding the Devastated France Fund. Receipts totaled 2700 dollars after five years of effort by the organizers.

Arrangements for Clermont Odd Fellows to march in the 100th anniversary event in Cincinnati on April 26. Music accompanies the procession and special transport is arranged to return members after services. A meeting place will be announced next week. Initiatory and Third degrees conferred on three candidates at Bata via lodge Friday night with work scheduled for next Friday.
In the first quarter Clermont County schools sold 70488 in War Savings Stamps, ranking 8th among Ohio counties with 11.91 per capita. The education division of the Ohio War Savings Committee notes vigorous Vacation Thrift Committee efforts and a statewide Vacation Contest offering 8000 in capital prizes from sponsors.
Sunday school will meet next Sunday afternoon at Old Bethel followed by a short Easter service and preaching. Everyone is welcome. The Ladies Helping Circle hosts their annual Easter supper Friday evening in the vacant Elmer Ely house near the store. All members and families invited.

The commission ers met April 7 with members Ross Lowe and Vanderment present. Bills approved include supplies for clerk 1750 dollars and bridge work 800 dollars. Various items listed amount to several thousands, with bids accepted from B L Jordan for Perintown bridge at 9400 and a Mr Wright buying the old road roller for 1060. Five hundred feet of bridge lumber ordered from A D Trissler. Bonds for Maple Goodwin pike fleet and Perintown bridge repairs recorded.

National chairwoman is Mrs William G McAdoo with a district chair in Cleveland. four district state chairs, local county organizers, and a strong push in Clermont County to mobilize women for the loan drive.
