Two well dressed men alighted from an interurban at Wilh ameville and carried a small satchel and tools to a timber patch near the Lillie farm. They dug under a stump, uncovered an iron kettle with coins, and retrieved a supposed hidden treasure. The land belonged to the Misses Lillie near Hillsboro, while local witnesses recalled a prior map and wartime rumors surrounding the stash.
Pupils of Olive Branch school held an Arbor Day program last Friday with Rev. Emil Wegner Batavia U B church and O M Edwards Mt Holly addressing patrons and children. Wegner spoke on German tree planting and protected songbirds while Edwards discussed Florida trees birds flowers and forest protection.
Miss Blanche Willis an elocutionist and Miss Grace Johnston pianist headline an April 22 recital at Marathon M E Church. Proceeds benefit the church. High school graduates Goldie Hutchinson and Raymond Apple to perform ovations. Reserved seats 25 cents, general 15 cents, children 10.

Mr and Mrs Samuel Burwell of Adams county quietly observed their 68th wedding anniversary last Thursday. They have been married longer than any other couple in the state known to us. The community extends wishes for many more anniversaries.
The second bi monthly session of the Clermont County Teachers Institute will be held at the Town Hall next Saturday April 15. All teachers are expected to be present. The program includes music and a business meeting with H C Minnion of Oxford University and other speakers listed in the readable items.
Hiram A Reeves formerly of Amelia now of Hillsboro engaged in blacksmithing was indicted last week by the Appland County grand jury on out larceny charges for stealing a harness from Cadow Robinson He is out on bond Known to many as a sheriff in Amelia before moving to Hillsboro

In a letter from George H. Hill aged 61 on March 6 1911 he recounts a lifelong Courier readership since 1855. He is grandson of John Hill the old surveyor and recalls teaching a select school at Owensville and leading Batavia schools with Geo W Moore a former pupil. Hill has been laid up but is now able to be out.

Richard Conklin veteran of the Civil War and Co A 3rd O V died at his sister Mrs Henry Speidel’s home in Willowville Friday at 2am after a paralytic stroke. He lived with the family 28 years and was known for kindness to children. Services were held at Milford and burial followed at Green Lawn cemetery. The Ohio Agriculture Department reports wheat at 84 percent of average with 19 percent still in producers hands after a harsh March. Barley and rye near 87 percent, corn in crib at 85 percent with molding concerns. Fruit prospects at 88 percent, buds damaged 8 percent, overall spring work progressing as oats seeding finishes.
The Columbus Board of Review visited Batavia on Friday to inspect a proposed armory site. Four members toured Main Street plots between the bridge and Third Street, favoring a lot at least 100 by 160 feet. The Thomas Teal property near Main Street is listed at 85000, with bonds needed to fund purchase. The decision rests with citizens, armory or no armory, with a formal report to follow.
The First National Bank of Wil Hamsburg will open on Wednesday April 19 with James E. McKeever as cashier in charge. Everyone is invited to attend the opening.
