Clermont Students Edit Courier for First Time in 116 Years

Five Clermont County high school students will edit the Clermont Courier marking the paper’s 116th year. They will attend a four day Journalism Workshop at the Ba tavia office, select an editor, choose staff, plan photo coverage, and learn printing terminology.

Unusual Lions Club welcome for Mississippi couple

Alfred Determan and his wife, returning from the Deep South, were detained by a Mississippi policeman near Leland, then hosted at a Lions Club dinner where Determan received a cotton bale and his wife handmade lace earrings as part of the club's good neighbor program.

Prizes For Egg Hunt Reach 75

Batavia merchants boost total prizes to 75 for Clermont County Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday April 12 at the American Legion grounds Route 74. The event runs 2 p.m. with Sheriff Dericks and Police Chief Colonel supervising safety. youngsters in four age groups will hunt numbered eggs at Main Street stores and local businesses.

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Vesper Saxton 59 at Craver funeral home Milford Ohio. Her body was found Friday in a pond at her farm near Coraddale and death attributed to drowning per Coroner F S Skeen reports. Religious Movies and Worship Planned in Clermont Churches

Clermont County churches mark Holy Week with programs leading to Easter. Amelia Methodists host candlelight Communion at 8 p.m. and show The Pilgrimage Play in the local school. Sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. precedes Sunday School and worship. The Crucifixion cantata by John Stainer to be sung at 8 p.m. at a Methodist church, and Easter services and open houses occur across several congregations with varied activities and new facilities.

Commissioners Sign Contract for Weed Killing Service

Clermont County Commissioners approved a one year weed killing contract with an option to extend if effective. The chemical method aims to reduce costs versus manual labor. The couple resides near San Diego at National City California where the groom serves at the naval air station.

Defendant Demands Jury Trial On Drunk Driving Charge

Gardener 37 pleaded guilty to resisting arrest in Mayor Paschal's Court and asked for a jury trial on a second drunken driving count. Trial set for May 17 with jury. sentence deferred until after. Arrests by Chief Ed Colonel and Patrolman Kalchek. Four more cases heard. Coslett fined for stop sign violation. Braham fined for DUI with suspended portion and short jail. Bender fined for speeding. Clayborn fined for drunken driving.

Knothole Ball Play Opens for Clermont County League

Batavia Ohio prepares for Knothole League opening with B teams on Monday April 28 followed by Class C on April 30 and Class A on May 3. Start times set at 6 pm for B and C, 2 30 pm for A and AA. Queen City umpires to officiate Sunday Class AA games.

New Richmond high school civics students toured Columbus on April 4 visiting the State Capital, State Mental Hospital, Columbus City Hall, the Capitol, Ohio Museum and OSU Student Union. The trip included a variety show, a basketball banquet and a dance after dinner on April 5.

Suspected Murder Victim Asks Divorce

Mrs. Fannie M. Reed 30, once thought murdered, sues William Reed of Williamsburg for divorce on grounds of extreme cruelty and neglect. A body found last May in a Kentucky creek was identified as Reed, who had been missing and was later linked to another victim, Mrs. Juanita Bailey 23 of Akron. The case remains unsolved.

Publicity Head Outlines Incorporation Plan for Withamsville Tobasco

A 40 member group from Withamsville Tobasco met April 2 to discuss incorporation feasibility. Clermont County officials Ray Bradford and Ralph Hill explained legal steps and offered office services. plan calls for a mass meeting and temporary officers to organize a permanent entity. A map by engineer John Jurgen son will define proposed boundaries, with May meetings to follow. Also notes First Baby of 1950 Diane Schwiermann born February 18.
