Feasibility Study For Clermont County Hospital Eyes Ballot

A feasibility study for a Clermont County hospital is planned before the fall ballot. Dr John F Winkle chairs the hospital committee and will ask the county planning commission to conduct the study with site recommendations. The panel includes Donald M Buckley Robert F Tilley and others. next meeting is May 2 at 3 p.m. in the county board of education office Batavia.

Atoms and Energy Display At OCAS

The Atomic Energy Commission presents an Atoms and Energy display at Ohio College of Applied Science starting April 4. Public hours are 9 am to 4 pm weekdays and 9 am to 1 pm Saturday April 10 in the Green Room basement of 1104 Walnut Street. W W Culp, college president, announced the exhibit. The school trains technicians for modern industry and runs the Ohio Mechanics Institute evening division founded in 1828.

Amelia Area Gas Service Plan Discussed

Amelia Lions Club will hear CGE spokesman on April 13 about extending natural gas to the area. Amelia council was told service could reach the area by October 1980 if enough residents sign up. a Bethel drive began Monday to recruit customers, with potential extension from Williamsburg if interest is strong.

Black Hawk District Scout Roundtables and Meetings Schedule

Deputy Injured In Auto Accident In Clermont County

Deputy Russ Epeards, 49, was injured with a cut lower lip when his cruiser rear ended a car driven by James Watters, 33, on Old State Route 74. Passenger Bennie Madden, groceries? No, head bruise. Both Epeards and Madden were treated and released at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in Mariemont.

Taxpayers Foot Hefty Bill as Ohio School Costs Rise

Ohio property taxes have climbed 59 percent over a decade while state support grew 22 percent. The report shows average district millage at 24.34 for all purposes, with 60+ mills total in 1965. Chagrin Falls tops at 60.10 mills, Lake County’s Kirtland at 59.48, while Bay Village and Oberlin had previously led at 37 mills. Cuyahoga Heights shows the highest per pupil valuation at 138,578. Huntington Local is lowest at 2,534.

April named Cancer Control Month in Clermont County after ceremonies at the courthouse and Batavia Post Office. Postmasters witnessed the sale of a special five cent cancer commemorative stamp, with 115 million issued nationwide. American Cancer Society Unit President Russell J. Speidel and Crusade Chairman Charles P. Woods spoke as county commissioners declared April 1965 for a concentrated anti cancer effort starting April 24 with a door to door education and fundraising campaign.

Clermont County Commissioners Celebrate Chairman’s Birthday

The Clermont County Commissioners opened their session with a cake cutting for Chairman Ralph Houser’s 51st birthday. Dog Warden Fred Wise reported 2055 miles logged by his team searching for stray animals, with $231 in dog license fees and $124 from strays and pound expenses. The panel received a permit request from Cincinnati Gas and Electric to install 135 feet of gas main on Wolfpen Pleasant Hill road. An afternoon flag raising and declaration of April as cancer control month followed.

Fire Causes $12,000 Damage To Home

A Sunday morning fire damaged the Bowman family frame house and contents on Old State Route 74 between Batavia and Olive Branch. Neighbors reported the blaze as authorities, led by Chief Vic Billingsley, investigated the scene after the Bowmans left town for the weekend. The North Union Township Fire Department responded to the incident.

Mayors Seek Unified Protest Over Appalachia Way Route

Bethel mayor O H Sharp plans a meeting of area mayors to protest a proposed Appalachia Way route in Clermont County. County officials heard that the Ohio Dept of Highways will propose routing the new four lane highway between State Route 125 and U S 52, but the department favors a Clermont County path along State Route 32.

Batavia and Newtonsville customers in the Cincinnati and Suburban Bell Telephone area are urged to return survey questionnaires quickly.
