Three Boys Sentenced to Reform School in Beating Case

Juvenile Court Judge Charles W. Jackson sent three of four youths involved in the March 12 beating and robbery of Berney Buxton to the Ohio State Reformatory. Sentenced were George Swanson 16 Robert Stockton 17 and Jerry Howell 16. Puckett 17 was bound over to the grand jury.

Man Cuts Cousin With Axe Over Talked-Too Much

Leon Lyons 72 of Amelia has been charged with assault with intent to kill after striking his cousin William Reed 62 with an axe following a dispute over talking Reed refused to attend a funeral and allegedly kept talking Lyons said he acted because he could not stand the chatter Reed, wounded on the forehead jaw and skull base, was rushed to Our Lady of Mercy Hospital Mariemont. Lyons free on $2000 bond and had lived with Reed since 1958 while trying to get him to leave the premises.

Election Upset Sought In Suit Against Historical Society

John Armiteder former president of the Clermont County Historical Society filed suit in Common Pleas Court to overturn the society election arguing that if 35 proxy votes had been admitted and counted the slate of officers would not have been elected. The proxy votes were cast for the society slate and were not counted by election judges.

Bids Opened on Two Public Works Projects in County

County commissioners opened bids on two PUB Water System projects on Aicholtz Rd Summer side. Elevated storage tank estimated 172 300 and water main 120 000. Tank bids ranged from 135 895 to 154 596 while main bids ranged from 102 294 to 122 020. Dr G P Weaver named to head county dental clinic. Dog Warden reports 322 dogs and cats taken in March with 47 adopted. Alfred Ginn building permits total 61, 35 for new structures.

Trustees Seek Parking Ban on Township Roads

Glen Este Union Township Trustees urged the county prosecutor to draft a resolution prohibiting parking on township roads and rights of way. They request an advance of 4000 dollars for the general fund or allocations from a new duet fund and road and misc allocations totaling about 4762 dollars, including funds for a new police cruiser.

Night Club Permit Revoked amid OLC actions in Ohio

The Ohio Liquor Control Commission revoked Carl Tattenhorst’s Log Cabin Inn permit and suspended two other licenses. Curt Barger, a bartender, was convicted of first degree manslaughter in a fatal 1966 shooting, prompting the action. A second tavern carryout permit faces a seven day suspension and minor employment restrictions are in place.

Clermont Countians Hospitalized In Cincinnati

Two prominent Clermont County residents are patients at Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati. County Auditor Earl Metzger, ill for about two weeks, was admitted Monday for observation. Police Chief Edward H. Colonel sought treatment earlier for a blood clotting condition in his leg.

Man Drowns In Creek Mishap Near Pleasant

Carl Lockay, 45, drowned when his canoe overturned in Big Indian Creek near Pleasant. His 9 year old son Jim and son in law Oliver Lindsley of 4368 Eastern Ave. were also in the boat. Jim clung to his father as it capsized and was later placed on the wreckage. The body was recovered by the New Richmond Life Squad in about 25 feet of water. Deputy Sheriff Richard K. Carson investigated.

Airport Grant Urged Before July 1 by Ohio Official

Withamsville Clermont County officials were urged to apply for a $100,000 state grant for airport construction before the July 1 deadline. John Cornett, assistant chief of the Ohio Division of Aviation, spoke to luncheon guests of the Community Action Commission Industrial Development Committee.

Bowl Down Cancer events at Tepe's Batavia Lanes

Tepe's Batavia Lanes hosts the Bowl Down Cancer event this week through April 8, an annual ACS fundraiser chaired by Thomas C. Middendorf. Other participating lanes include Holly Lanes Mt Holly Love land Lanes and Mergard's Milford. Trophies reward high scores at each lane with a final state trophy at the ACS Ohio Division meeting in October.

UC Debaters To Entertain Rotary Club

Members of Batavia Rotary Club will hear University of Cincinnati debaters Mike Haverkamp and Mike Murtaugh argue The US Should Pull Out of Vietnam. Both freshmen honor students recently returned from a National Debate Tournament in Detroit. The meeting is at Holy Trinity Hall on April 6 30 p.m.

Knothole Teams Deadline Today in Clermont County

The Clermont County Knot hole Leagues set a Thursday meeting in the Kahle Building on Main St to finalize the 1967 season entries. Franchises must appear with team names managers addresses and phone numbers along with forfeit and expense payments. Class AA can enter later at the April 18 meeting.

Amelia Builds School Forest Initiative at Local School

The program provides free Red Pine Australian Pine White Pine and Norway Spruce to educational institutions. About 200 trees are planted each class period until completion. Stewart notes the effort will create a school forest and teach students tree types and planting methods. He hopes to continue next year to expand benefits.
