Voting day yielded strong Republican gains across Clermont precincts with Hamilton county’s GOP majority around 7,000 noted. Batavia township reported Rush as treasurer leading with 153 votes, while Democrats saw mixed results in Batavia and neighboring townships amid weathered polling.
Nellie Vaughan aged five secretly rode a Big Four line from Cedar Rapids to Chicago and onto Louisville. Her father C H Vaughan learned of the journey only after her arrival and arranged a reunion with Col Gates who met her in Louisville.
At the Jesse Killis Post 740 G A R meeting the resolution urged honoring the line of promotion by rank to name W C Johnson as the legally constituted appointee and logical successor to the late Captain James A Sexton. Johnson, an Ohio man and former Clermont resident, was elected senior vice commander, with anticipatory succession to commandership and strong state support. The resolutions were sent to Philadelphia's National Council of Administration for action on December 12.
At a White Oak Pierce township meeting on March 25 delegates chosen Theodore Bennett chair and Benjamin Louis secretary. Resolutions pledge opposition to trusts and monopolies and support free speech free ballots initiative referendum graded income tax suffrage and peopled coalition across parties unions.
Pensions secured for Clermont County soldiers and widows in the six months ending April 1 include increases renewals and additions. The list names claimants such as Mrs Salome Nieman Neville Shadrick Goon Elijah Tatman John E Wilmouth Joseph Starks William Knabb John C Still Mrs Martha J Scott Thomas Rybolt and others with various increases and self descriptions.

The family, respected in Newport, faces disgrace and hopes the son reforms after release. He was taken to the penitentiary Monday. good behavior could shorten the term by six months.
The May term opens Monday with the grand jury listed by township and district. Notable names include Ellsberry Tate, Daugherty, Applegate, Strickland, Williams, and Paxton from Williamsburg, and several others across Monroe, Franklin, and Miami counties. The petit jury follows on Tuesday May 2 with members such as Dimmitt, Burroughs, Green, Thiel, Myers, Kellum, and Armstrong, among others from Batavia, Goshen, and surrounding areas. The total licenses issued this year are 60, up from 58 in the same period last year.
The Courier notes the death of Alexander Beall a lifelong Williams burg resident and prominent citizen. He died on the 27th at age 34 after a career as a leading merchant and postmaster under Grant and possibly Hayes. His son Edgar Beall a renowned phrenologist from Cincinnati attended the funeral held last Wednesday.
Edward and R W Turpin of Anderson township file suit in Cincinnati before Judge Hollister asking a final injunction against the Batavia Turnpike and Miami Bridge Co. They allege an 1835 contract with their grandfather guaranteed free passage for the Turpin family in return for right of way and claim sixty years of toll-free use were violated by current toll collection at Union bridge gate.
General Otis rose from private in the 12th Ohio Volunteers a regiment that drew men from every county in the Sixth district. Ottis veteranized with the 12th and the unit merged with part of the 284 to become the 23d. He befriended McKinley here, shaping his rise, and is known to many in Clermont County as a friend of Major Sam West.

Last Wednesday morning a fire wiped out the Elmer Blanchard residence near New Richmond on the Ohio turnpike. The blaze was due to a defective furnace. Built about sixty years ago, the house was left with most lower-floor goods saved. Insurance valued at 225 dollars. Salem township clerk P C Robinson of Highland county has been arrested on a charge of defacing and mutilating office records after allegedly tearing a bond record from a justice of the peace bond book.
A property owner sued a telephone company for damages claiming limb cutting. The court ruled the shine trees in front of the owner’s resilience do not belong to him though located on pallia property. Several cases show linestrung crews damaging trees. owners may protest but faces limits.

William Pate of Ridgeville Warren county died at his home on the 23rd instant at age 73. A renowned private in the army of the Cumberland he attended every grand army encampment within a thousand miles of Ridgeville and was a prominent figure in Lebanon. He was uncle of Prof Venable who spoke at his funeral, and he was buried by the G A R.
