Army Enlistments Open at Batavia Postoffice This Week
Clermont County young men ages 17 to 34 may enlist in the Regular Army at the Batavia post office this week and next. Pfc. Oak Adams of the Cincinnati recruiting station will be there daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until April 15 to take enrollments. Recruits are sent to Louisville for physicals and then to Camp Atterbury Indiana for assignment. Enlistees choose branch and theater, and sign for 18 months to three years with GI Bill benefits including college training after service.

The Clermont Soil Conservation District board met in the district office in Batavia on Friday night March 22. Members present were Elmer Norris chairman Albert M Kistner secretary Robert A Caldwell and George Schafer. They discussed a cooperative woodland product enterprise to create markets for farm wood lumber and finished lumber and for planting forest trees in the county with a local nurseryman. The district received 4000 short leaf pine 6600 tulip poplar 10000 black locust 560 white pine and 3000 multiflora rose for planting on county farms in cooperation with the district.
