Eight Arraigned In Clermont Court

Eight defendants appeared in Clermont County Common Pleas Court in Batavia for arraignment before Judge Harry M. Britton after the previous Grand Jury session. Read as not guilty pleas were entered by Hattie Williamson Vernon Drummond Clifford Henderson George Hartwell Walter Nussbaum Howard Brill Ray Hammond John A Cunea with bonds ranging from 500 to 25 000 and trial dates in April May.

Crop Insurance Adjuster Appointed For Clermont County

Edward C. Saxton of Coraddale Ohio has been named crop insurance adjuster for Clermont County by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation. He will appraise all crop losses, with guidance from the county A A A office, and oversee all risk assessments for insured wheat. Two men, William J. Miss Mullee Represents District At Music Conference

Miss Jean Mullee of Goshen Consolidated School will represent the Southern Western District of Ohio at the National Education Conference in Cleveland. She and her music teacher Miss Christine Williams departed Friday to perform in an all state chorus on Saturday.

Salvation Army Rural Drive Nets $1601.14 in Clermont County

Johnston of the Southwestern Ohio Division Public Relations Secretary announced the total, with drive treasurer Robert R. Griffin confirming contributors may still send gifts. Batavia Eastern Star Plans Monday Night Meeting

The official board of Clermont County Council of Religious Education will meet at Batavia United Brethren Church on Sunday April 7 at 2 30 PM. They plan the 80th annual convention formerly Sunday School Association to be held at Amelia Methodist Church Friday May 3 from 1 30 to 9 30 PM with a buffet supper at six. Tuberculosis and Health Group Plans Annual Meeting

The Clermont County Tuberculosis and Health Association will meet at 8 p m Wednesday in the Health Department office at the Courthouse Batavia. Plans for the coming year and proposed tuberculosis hospital legislation in Ohio will be discussed. Association president is Mrs Glenn Hill of Bethel.

Dr Rapp Named Clermont County Coroner

Dr Allen B Rapp of Owensville was appointed coroner for Clermont County to fill the vacancy after the death of Sam White of Felicity. A longtime county resident, he has 35 years of medical practice and broad local support. He accepted the appointment upon request of the County Commissioners.

Army Enlistments Open at Batavia Postoffice This Week

Clermont County young men ages 17 to 34 may enlist in the Regular Army at the Batavia post office this week and next. Pfc. Oak Adams of the Cincinnati recruiting station will be there daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until April 15 to take enrollments. Recruits are sent to Louisville for physicals and then to Camp Atterbury Indiana for assignment. Enlistees choose branch and theater, and sign for 18 months to three years with GI Bill benefits including college training after service.

Boy Scouts Hear Games Expert on April 10

Mr Bernard Mason, international games authority, will speak at a Boy Scout Cul Leader Round table in Bata via. The event is Wednesday evening April 10 at 8 p m in the high school basement. The public is invited to attend and learn about games from a renowned expert.

Clermont County Baseball League Opens Season April 21

Eleven Clermont County teams posted their $25 forfeit and prize money to enter the league, which will open April 21. Teams include Mt. Carmel New Richmond Williamsburg Owensville Amelia Williamsville Mt. Crab Goshen Newtonsville Batavia Fayetteville Edenton. Locust Corner expected to join, bringing total to 12. By laws adopted and Queen City umpires to be used. Equipment shortages dampen outlook, says Earl Kincaid president.

Clermont Soil Conservation Board Meets in Batavia

The Clermont Soil Conservation District board met in the district office in Batavia on Friday night March 22. Members present were Elmer Norris chairman Albert M Kistner secretary Robert A Caldwell and George Schafer. They discussed a cooperative woodland product enterprise to create markets for farm wood lumber and finished lumber and for planting forest trees in the county with a local nurseryman. The district received 4000 short leaf pine 6600 tulip poplar 10000 black locust 560 white pine and 3000 multiflora rose for planting on county farms in cooperation with the district. A 1945 vehicle registration fee distribution announced by State Highway Director Perry T. Boy 12 Smokes Cigarettes Then Collapses In Yard

A Batavia lad of twelve years secured a package of cigarettes in town last week and smoked six, then collapsed by a wood pile. Friends found him and he was treated and nursed back to health. The episode sparked concern over youth smoking habits.

Missing Woman Prompts Regional Search and Court Action

Mrs Blanche Drummond, 62, of Larado, has been missing since March 8 prompting Clermont and Brown County authorities to search across the region. Her son Vernon Drummond was indicted for failure to provide and appeared for arraignment. the hunt has involved Sheriff Dericks and deputies Hutchinson and Bissantz with help from state patrol and Brown County officials.
