Why Not Spend It On Public Roads In Batavia Township
The Batavia township trustees ended 1922 with about $8600 on hand and February distribution raised it to roughly $8,000 for spring road work. If funds are unnecessary, avoid a levy as taxes are high. Many roads need repairs and ditches clearing. The Olive Branch to Centerville road requires attention. Public funds should be used to build and maintain roads, not sit idle during the panic. Farmers will be busy soon and labor scarce, raising costs.

Obituary of Civil War veteran John Burrell of Kentucky
John Burrell, born in Bracken County Kentucky, served as a Union soldier in the Civil War with Company K of the Fifty first United States Colored Troops, and was honorably discharged at New Bern North Carolina on September 7, 186?. He fought in Nashville New Bern and Petersburg and was injured at New Bern. He married Bettie Williams in 1837 and moved to Batavia in 1880. Nine children were born. three daughters and one son survived, with three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His second wife Mary Walton survives as a widow. He joined the Baptist church then transferred to the M B church during Rev Love's pastorate. He and his wife were cared for by their grandson-in-law James Brower and wife since 1917. He died peacefully on Friday evening at a set age. Peace to his memory.

Thomas E. Weaver, only son of Will Weaver of Maywood, died at his Toledo home last Thursday in his 87th year from tuberculosis. He leaves a widow and two young children. his parents and four sisters survive. Burial was at Walnus Hills Monday with the Masonic order in charge of the funeral.
