Hawkins Leads Urbana Freshman Varsity Star in Ambitious Season
Dean Hawkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stan Hawkins, stars as Urbana’s second varsity athlete as a freshman. He posted a 17-11 mark in prep action and hits .333 through Florida contests. Previously a New Richmond graduate 1980, Hawkins earned CCL all star honors and senior athlete recognition in multiple sports. He is now a catcher on the Urbana baseball team.

New Richmond won a triangular boys track meet with 83 points, Bethel 49, and Western Brown 26. Lions had top marks from John Telek in high jump and hurdles, Robert Wildey in sprints, Jeff Cann in pole vault, and Doug Mitchell in the two mile, while Kenny Craycraft led the Tigers with mile and 880 wins and a strong relay showing. In a quad meet Turpin scored 127, Amelia 53, Glen Este 34, and McNicholay 22, with Barons’ Scott Ohl winning the 880 and setting a long jump school record as Mark Crouse matched high jump.

Hamilton County Park District hosts annual kite contest at Breezy Point Pavilion Woodland Mound Park co sponsored by WSAI AM FM and VIPs Volunteers in Parks. Open to ages 16 and under with divisions for 10 16 and under 9 and under no advance registration. Participants receive a participation certificate. Contest begins 2 p.m. with ribbons for largest smallest most original and decorative kites.
