Spirit Lake remembers Harry Truman with marble monument
In Tacoma AP report, Spirit Lake stonecutter Don Wahlstrom nears completion of an 1800 pound memorial to Harry Truman who refused to leave Mount St. Helens after its eruption. Commissioned by Truman's sister Geri Whiting, the marble surface awaits a likeness of Truman Spirit Lake and the volcano. The memorial was planned for Spirit Lake where Truman’s remains and his lodge lie buried under ash.
