Submarines sighted near Alaska shock U.S. forces
Anchorage reports two sightings of non American submarines off the Kenai peninsula within 160 miles of the city. U.S. fish and wildlife agents Donald Cross and Tom Costello said they observed a snorkel type German submarine near Dick Arm on August 28 and a longer shaped object on September 12 while flying near Anchorage. A joint Army Navy Air Force board is investigating the incidents.

Four Hurt as Cars Collide on Route 38 Near Wellington
Four people, including a nine year old boy, were seriously injured in a two car crash on Route 38 about a mile north of Wellington at 6 15 PM. Gerald Sheffield 9 sustained skull and jaw fractures and was in critical condition. His parents Floyd and Eila Sheffield and Andrew Carnegie of Akron were treated for injuries. Mrs Sheffield later transferred to Elsna Memorial in fair condition with leg and knee fractures. Hospital officials reported slight improvement in the boy’s condition by midnight.
