Amblers Named Itcher Williams Tells Identity of Baseball Crooks
In Chicago on September 29 the identity of alleged go-betweens and gamblers who bribed White Sox players in the 1919 World Series emerged from confessions to the grand jury by Claude Lefty Williams and Chick Gandil. Williams testified about payments alleged to total $20,000 with some funds sent to Crockett Jackson, while others named Bill Burns and Abe Attell as fixing clues. Further confessions by seven White Sox players and one former player were anticipated as indictments were handed up, with discussions of two National League players possibly involved and more grand jury action to widen the baseball probe amid ongoing investigations into sports corruption.

Rent Complaints Pile Up for Lorain Hearing Tonight
Secretary KR B Whitehead of the Lorain County Fair Price Commission reported more than 60 rent profiteering complaints have been filed for tonight’s public hearing in Court Room No 1 at the court house on 715. He noted the total may reach the LO mark this morning as builds files. One Elyria home is on the tax duplicate for 1350 and charging 50 a month in rent. The commission weighs raising valuations to curb profiteering, which would double or treble tax duplicates for many homes in Elyria and raise rents accordingly.
