Low pay at Murray Ridge workshop shocks county
Sally Grundy, a 22-year-old with Down syndrome, works 11 percent time at the Murray Ridge Production Center earning cents per hour under a federal formula for handicapped workers. Records show many among 268 workers earned under 70 cents an hour last year, with about half under 48 cents and 81 under 29 cents. a 76‑cent biweekly paycheck was among the smallest. The workshop ended 1980 with a surplus of over $143,000, to be kept for use in the center's operations.

A Yugoslav jetliner with 101 aboard was hijacked Saturday night and given permission to land at Larnaka Cyprus after Israel refused Tel Aviv. The hijackers had demanded landing in Tel Aviv and the plane, which had been diverted to Athens for refueling, was in an easterly direction.
