Knoxvilles Good Samaritan Rescues Family From Cliff Fall
A Knoxville area family car plunged 80 feet down a Great Smoky Mountains cliff after brake failure on US 71. Sherman Burnette of Akron, Ohio, crawled and climbed the mountainside seeking help as his wife Vertie and three children endured injuries. Sharon, 2, suffered a possible fractured skull, while Vertie may have a broken back. Burnette later flagged down a vehicle and two doctors brought aid, with Kenneth, 2, and Gloria, 6, sustaining only cuts and bruises.
